Barb, talk to your doctor.

My mother in law required very little medication, unlike many
Alzheimer's patients - she was never on antidepressants or
antipsychotics, but we did have the okay for very occasional
tranquilizer use when she got really agitated in that miserable middle
stage. It only happened a handful of times that just nothing else was
working and she had to be given a small dose of something to settle her
down - for her sake as well as her caregivers.

If its an ongoing problem, a low dose of some of the newer
antidepressants also help with anxiety levels.

My mother-in-law was given an anti-psychotic drug
(I forget which one) and it turned her into a zombie.
She was taken off that and recovered.  Later she was
given a low dose of one of the anti-depressants (again
I forget which one), but seemed to have no problem with
that.  It did not seem to affect her ability to stay awake
or to walk and talk, but did seem to make her a little
more cheerful and less anxious.

If you try some drugs, the key thing might be to
watch closely and change the prescription if it's not
working or seems to be making some things worse.

Good luck.

A lot of older people are very susceptible to UTI's.  Often Doctors will
prescribe a small dosage of Antibiotic to be taken all the time as a type of
prophylactic against UTI's.

Have you talked to her Doctor about Lorazepam (Ativan)?  .5 mg of Ativan
often helps AZ patients who are going through periods of extreme anxiety.

Hang in there, Barb.  Don't forget to care for the caregiver.
