WHO are you trying to prolong her life for, and for what? So she
can suffer through more days of confusion and upset, only to
deteriorate to a vegetable? Is this what she would want, or
would she have told you to just let her go?
Think about it. Are you doing this for HER or for YOU? If for
you, please contact hospice and get some counseling about helping
her to die with dignity. They're in your local phone book, and
Medicare will pay if payment is necessary. They also help with
home care when the end is near.
I know that I was lucky because in her last lucid moments my
mother told us to "take me home and call Hospice", but we had
discussed her attitude about death many times, and her living
will said no food, no hydration, just pain relief if necessary.
Really, Barb, think about what SHE would have wanted. I'm sure
that she would rather not become a total vegetable.
