Hi!

Have a gardening question.

We have a hornets/wasp nest in the soil next to the house/deck, where I
would really like to plant a kitchen garden. The wasps have also made it
impossible to use the deck as they are a very aggressive variety.

Given the extent of the nest (several years old now), I figure it's going to
take the well timed application of pesticides to eradicate the nest. Anyone
know which one/ones and when it should be applied? How long until I can grow
foodstuffs in the area without contamination?

Get a large can of wasp/hornet killer and then wait until it is completely
dark and cool at night. The wasps will be inactive and sleeping. Using a
flashlight to see where you are aiming, soak the nest thoroughly with wasp
spray. The nest will be destroyed and you won't have gotten stung. Only
spray the nest and you'll be able to plant this year.    best,  AW

If the nest is underground, simply spray directly into the opening hole and
keep spraying. Hornets don't build back door outlets so the entire nest will
be killed off.  Just make sure and get close enough to totally soak and fill
the entrance hole. Don't plant anything for 2 feet or so around the opening
for one year.  AW

Seven Dust is great for getting rid of wasps and cheaper too.   Put it in an
empty dishwashing detergent bottle and spray it around eaves and in wasp or
bee nest holes.   They track it into their nest.  The best time to get rid
of a wasp nest is in the winter when they are dormant......June
