I was visiting Mom today in her assisted living apartment.   She was feeling
a bit chilly so I turned the heat in her apartment a tad.   Meanwhile she
picked up the phone and I heard a voice on the other end and then she hung
up.   I asked who she called and she said the time and temperature.   She
claims that she dialed 211 but I have no idea what number she actually
dialed.   I'm old enough to remember when their were 4 digit phone numbers
but I'm clueless as to who she actually called.   I do know it was
automated.   I had put her phone on measured service to a save a few
dollars.   I wondered why she was so close to the limit of outgoing calls on
her last bill and now I know.   I immediately called the phone company and
after going through phone company menu hell,  I got her phone changed to
unlimited calling.   For good measure I blocked her long distance.    My
brother didn't want her long distance blocked for whatever reason but he's
still in denial about her abilities.   Just when you think she's not capable
of something there's a new wrinkle.  Whoever she called told her what day it
is and really it's not a bad thing.    She still keeps a calendar  and
writes down appointments and when someone is supposed to be there.   She
called my brother on Sunday and asked him when he was going to pick her up
to go out.   I had mentioned to her on Saturday that he would be there.
Such a strange disease.    She can't remember so many things and it's
strange what she can remember.....June
