wmmckee@cox.net - 01 Feb 2006 22:58 GMT Hello everyone. I just wanted to let you know that I am new here, and to make myself known. No, I do not have alzheimers, but my grandmother did, and I have worked with many alzheimers patients over the years in my career as an attorney.
A very good friend of mine who sometimes hangs out in the group told me about it, so here I am.

carolinasongbird@gmail.com - 04 Feb 2006 18:38 GMT I'm a native of Charleston, but I now live in the Charlotte metro area. I'm a USC grad as well. Are you connected to the Carolinas?

Gwen Love - 04 Feb 2006 21:21 GMT Songbird , I have a connection to Charleston & Beaufort, SC and to Charlotte, NC. My bro-in-law ran tire stores in Charleston until he had a stroke and sold out, still lives near Ravenel. My daughter lives in Beaufort; we lived out from Beaufort for a year or so and had a vacation place on the water there for a few years. My grandson lives in Charlotte, so all of those places touch my heart! Gwen

One of these days I might take her up on it.

Living in Virginia, as I do, I have spent a lot of time vacationing in and driving through the Carolinas, over the years. Also, one of my very dear cousins lives in Charleston, where she is on the faculty of the Med School.

carolinasongbird@gmail.com - 05 Feb 2006 17:04 GMT I lived in Virginia for three years as a kid while my dad went to seminary in Alexandria. But then, I'm not sure the DC metro area still counts as Virginia!

Nati - 02 Feb 2006 13:05 GMT Welcome Will. I always read this newsgroup because i'm interested and people are warm and helpful, not because i have had any direct experience with alz yet. Although i think i may in the future.

Hope not, for your good. If, however, you'd like to swap, I'd be happy to trade it for $200,000.

Run away with me; I can make you unhappy.

Although i think i may in the future. Hi Nati, Thanks for the welcome. Well, let's hope you never do have any direct experience with alz. There are no words to describe what it does to people and the families of its victims.

Good to see you, too... I don't say I specialize in Elder Law, but I do handle some Elder Law matters in the context of a general practice.

It was having its first five year accreditation review by the ABA when I was a 1L. Had several UVA grads in my class. ('86).
I was a Family Law atty doing mostly Legal Aid overflow for experience. When my solo practice didn't taking off, I stopped practicing law to start a family. Not inclined to go back, yet.
What type of law do you practice?

No, I do not have alzheimers, but my grandmother did, [quoted text clipped - 30 lines] > >Adelle Adelle, it is very nice to meet you, so to speak! One of my favorite cities is Baltimore... I won' t go into a lot of the detail now, but I have a lot of family there. When I was a kid I spent many happy days at my Uncle's place in Homeland, which is near Towson... There are some little ponds down near the bottom of Broxton Rd., where my brother and I used to sail our toy boats back in the 50's and early 60's. I have very many fond memories of Baltimore.
I am familiar with Cambridge, also. For a time in my Navy days, I lived in Road Island and got over to MA very often... I love New England, and I found that my last name really works in South Boston! Ha!
I do know very well what you mean about how hard it is to get a solo practice going. It is hit, or miss, it seems. I went to law school at William and Mary in the 70's after I got back from the Vietnam War, and was fortunate to have some good opportunities afterward... Now, I have my own small firm here in Virginia Beach, and we are engaged in what I would have to call a general practice. Mostly, I represent a lot of criminal and traffic clients, handle domestic cases, some personal injury matters, a few real estate closings, and do general civil litigation. Additionally, I have a few small business clients and do a little bit in the area of trusts, wills, and estates
Looking back on things, maybe I would have been better off going to med school... Then maybe even truck driving school or barber college would have been better ;-)... just joking, but a career in law is a very hard way to go. I would not want to do it again, so I don't blame you for not wanting to go back.
Over the years, I have had a number of cases involving victims of alzheimers.

AZdesertman - 21 Apr 2006 01:52 GMT Hi Will, Good to have you...and what any caregiver will tell you a keen sense of humor is a true asset. In that vein, are you an only child? If not, do you have brothers named Bailee or Brief or a twin named Mirror Will ; or sisters named Appellee or Proxy? What's a group without a lawyer joke or two? I promise pro hac vice, welcome. Anyone else... heard the one about....(fill in the blank)
