Amarin shares soar after Parkinson's animal study

LOS ANGELES, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Shares of British neuroscience drug
developer Amarin Corp. Plc (AMRN.O: Quote, Profile, Research) rose
nearly 52 percent on Tuesday as encouraging preclinical data extended a
run-up that began in December with a private equity placement.
The stock gained $1.01 to close at $2.96 on Nasdaq, nearly triple the
$1.01 per share purchase price of the $26.4 million private placement
announced on Dec. 22, 2005.
"I think people are impressed with the quality of the financing," said
Rodman & Renshaw analyst Elemer Piros.
He said the latest Amarin investors included a prominent venture
capital firm and a value-oriented biotech investment fund.
Amarin is conducting pivotal Phase 3 trials of a drug called Miraxion
as a treatment for Huntington's disease.
The company last week presented preclinical results indicating the
molecule, a purified preparation of an omega-3 fatty acid, could be of
therapeutic benefit in Parkinson's disease.
"It's still in animal studies, so anything can happen," Piros said.

This is the real reason for the omega 3 push: profits. All you need to
do is to avoid omega 6s in the first place, then there will be nothing
for the omega 3s to "competitively inhibit." You can do your own mouse
study here. Just load up a dozen with an oil source high in omega 6s,
and load the other dozen up with fresh coconut oil. You will see that
avoiding the omega 6s is all that is necessary, not consuming omega 3s,
which are dangerous in the opposite way. You can load up a third group
with fish oil, canola oil, or a fish/canola combination and you will
see how dangerous the omega 3s are. The "benefits" of competitive
inhibition are only short-term, then the excessive free radical
activity takes its toll. The "studies" they do are short term. If
you let the mice live out their days, you will see how much shorter
their lives are on any of the omega 3/6 combinations (probably 20%
caloric intake is enough to shorten their lifespans considerably, but
since Americans eat more than 20% fat each day, you could try 25% or
so).
