I stand resolute

Thank to the support and advice I got from this group I stand resolute,
well I am trying to stand resolute anyway. I HAVE to go with the idea
of placing him in a nursing home as he seems to be quite calm about it
and accepting.

I do get the feeling that he really doesn't care much about what is
happening but I am not sure if that is because they have him drugged to
the eyeballs or it is because his brain is not functioning as it
should.

When I visit him in hospital he seems a LOT better until he becomes
agro or starts hallucinating, which he did today. Also he has this
whole scenario about buying a car going on with him which starts with
his Dad contacting the car yard and the dealer bringing the car to the
hospital and the nurse going downstairs with him so he could look at it
and later he mentioned what the weather was like when he went
downastairs to look at the car. Today it continued on as he said they
are going to swap the wheels for him.

Only problem is his Dad never called the car yard and called me at the
hospital to ask me what to do. I told him to nothing and that if he
asks to say he did what he asked him.

So his Dad said, you mean to lie through my teeth and I said Yes, that
is the only thing to do.

To make the car thing worse, he gave his dad my debit card details, as
I will not give him his card back because the hospital do not want him
ringing the Police and lawyers etc, not to mention Brothels.

He told me another story about a nurse lending him his mobile phone and
him calling his 'friend' Kate, who is coming to see him and in fact was
supposed to be on her way while I was with him, but she never came and
he didn't mention it again. (She runs a brothel according to him but is
not a prostitute)

I watched him get into bed by climbing up on the bed and then sliding
his feet under the covers rather than the normal practice of sitting on
the bed and lifting your legs up.

He tells his dad that I do not visit even when his dad spoke to me the
day before at the hospital and tells  me that the nurses make him go to
bed really early and that the will not let him ring me but I do not
think it is true from what I can see and have been told. I do know that
I just cannot ignore everything he tells me as I then stand to make
mistakes but it is difficult to know what the truth is and what he is
imagining.

Today he could not even sign his name, although he was doing a word
puzzle OK. This is a weird illness.

I have given up on arguing with him I just agree with everything now
and it makes for a nicer visit. I think he is happy enough for me to
visit but doesn't seem upset if I don't or I come much later and he
seems OK that I am going back to work tomorrow and won't visit until
after work, although he still expects me to come there.

So I am glad that I have had the opportunity to have a nice visit but
also witness that he is not as well as he appears. He thinks it is the
doctors putting him in a nursing home and I am not about to change that
view but I am not convince that he actually understands what that means
yet.

Only time will tell.

I do thank you all for making me see what I have to do, hard as it is.

Liz, you made a very good decision not to argue with him.  You have to
accept his reality (unless it harms himself or someone else), because he
cannot accept your reality.  His brain just can't handle it.  I hope all
will go well with moving him to the nursing home.
