The Cranky Genee - 02 Jan 2006 02:37 GMT
Hello All,

I have been lurking for quite a while just to see how everyone is
getting on.  It was I who emailed Julian's friend from one of the
previous Julian posts.  I first received an email saying that indeed
Julian had taken his life at midnight.  I take it this person is not
with Julian and hears the news from others.  A while later I got
another email saying that Julian had just over dosed on medicine in an
attempt.  At that time Julian was in hospital supposedly recovering.

The person Matti also said he/she would be returning to Italy in the
morning and will update me IF he hears anything more and has internet
access.

That's all I know.  I will post more if I hear anything.

Genee, I wrote Matti also, but didn't hear from him/her.

Gwen and Genee,

I heard from Jules last night and once again this morning, so it seems he is
really on the mend, thank goodness!  He is a sweet guy, having a bit of bad
luck in relationship matters right now, and I hope that knowing that many of
us here care about him will help him through.

Regards,
Evelyn

I can't believe what i am reading. I found it strange that Julian said
goodby. Really did not understand well the meaning of his goodby post,
evidently because i did not think he was sad. Depression is a killer. I
suffered three major episodes in a decade and was hospitalized.
Medicine stopped it and have been well for another decade. The holidays
bring a lot of depression in many, whichever the reason is... decrease
in natural light, stress... Julian, my love, i feel you drink too much.
Alcohol is a depressant. Take it easy. I read all your posts and links
and enjoy you. Life is sometimes sad but it is also sometimes wonderful
and peaceful. There is not just one door, when one closes another
opens. You'll get over this. You are a wonderful loving and lovable
person. Your grandpa needs you. Get well and come back to the group and
keep sharing with us. Happy 2006!

This is so sad. So glad he is doing better.

Hoping things start looking better for him.

This is difficult because my sister is also having a rough time. Some
medication (hormone based) and other issues leave her periodically so low
she has been suicidal but not acted on it. She doesn't want to try
antidepressants because she has had a bad reaction to one she tried. Like
me, we seem to get more side effects than most people. But my depression has
never been so severe as to leave me suicidal.

Julian - if you are lurking - You are a worthwhile and good person.

Adelle, tell your sister to try another medication. I went into a spin
in early 2005 due work related stress (we ended up in a 3 1/2 month
long strike) compounded by weight loss. I was absolutely in a knot -
couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. The first antidepressant they tried on me
was effexor, supposedly the one they use to bring just about anyone
back from the brink with few of the unpleasant side effects like weight
gain. Not only did it not make me better, it made me MORE anxious. Not
having been through anything quite like this before, it took me a while
to figure out that despite the fact I wasn't at work, I wasn't
improving and in fact was feeling worse (more wound up than ever). I
was switched to another medication (zoloft), and poof, much, much
better within a few weeks.

You have to give a few a try, and since they often take a few weeks to
work, be willing to hang in to see if anything improves, if there are
side effects, and if the side effects pass off with time.
