While I continued to work I had at that time been cooking in the Aged
care home I still work in.My strongest desire was to become a
carer.Mainly for the reason of not only wanting to learn more for my
Mum about this unsidious disease, but also because I wanted to make a
difference in the life of others suffering AD.
My chance came most unexpectedly when our Supervisor who had no idea
what she was doing and would not employ any more staff to cope with the
ever increasing demands of the residents let me fill a few care shifts.
Well depart supervisor enter our local hospital management.I enrolled
in what we call here in Australia Certificate 111 in aged care and am
just completing my first year of study.
I have completed a Alzheimers competency in the caring in a facility of
these residents and have done many other study groups in this.
My favourite part of this all Understanding Chellenging Behaviours and
boy do you know what they are all about.
However I can now see it from both sides of the fence it is the most
intriguing part for me both as a daughter whose mother now in a nursing
home reacts to a given situation and the carer who looks after the care
needs in a facility.
The most emotionally and draining time of the day from 4pm as you would
all be more than aware Sundowning time.

Congratulations on your big turn around in your life.  I'm sure you will be
much happier now, and you will be doing good for people who really need
someone who cares.
