Everything went fine picking up Mom at the airport.   My brother escorted
her to the gate and found a lady traveling to our town here in Indiana to
ride in seat next to her.  It's good that my brother is so personable.   It
helps when things like this come up.
My daughter asked Mom how her flight was and Mom replied "Uneventful, just
the way you want it".  I am so glad I had her flagged as special needs.   It
made easy for me to get to the gate in Indy.  So I will lurk for awhile and
hopefully no new scenarios for awhile......June

When we got back home, I went to the Post Office to pick up Mom's and my
brother's mail.   There was a Christmas card addressed to my mother.   Mom
"That's my writing on the envelope!"  Me..."Oh I bet that's your check from
the sale of your house"....I knew my brother had mailed it but I didn't know
it would be in a Christmas card that my mother had addressed.   Mom was
confused about the whole thing.   Sorta like hiding your own Easter
eggs.....   I took my Mom out to dinner and we stopped at the bank along the
way and deposited it in the account that my brother told me he was going to
put it in.   I told my daughter about it and she said " He trusted the mail?
Why didn't she just put it in her purse?"   I looked at her incredulously
"Given a choice between trusting the Post Office or trusting dementia I
would take the Post Office."     Daughter (who has an engineering degree
from Purdue)  "Oh, right"   And so it goes......June

I know your banking system is different to the UK, where there are no
regional differences, but couldnt it have been paid in, in Florida?

Some might also say its a close call between entrusting it to the PO and
putting it the purse of a dementia sufferer....

It's different here.   The bank here in Indiana doesn't exist in Florida.
It could be a close call about in trusting the Post Office or dementia.   At
least the small town where they live here in Indiana has a small Post Office
where Post Mistress knows everybody......June

But June, electronic transfers happen all the time between
institutions. Changes in technology have really changed whats possible.
You just have to tell them where to send the money (name of the bank,
branch info, address). Mailing a paper cheque for a huge amount is
nuts!

There is a charge for an electronic transfer, but for a large amount of
money it is well worth it.

Yep, brother is nuts!   Check out previous threads.   She has a bank account
in Florida too.   I've been trying for months to get my brother to close it.
Her Social Security check goes into it. ( Also been nagging about getting
address change at Social Security)  At least my name is on some of the
Florida accounts and I was able to get the address changed to here in
Indiana.   I found out the bank had no address for her after I  called them
when brother mentioned that Mom hadn't gotten a bank statement for a few
months.   If I were in charge things would be different.   He says he will
close it when he gets back.   Tired of nagging.   Remember -- brother not
the sharpest crayon.  This is where I start kicking myself for letting him
have POA.   At least the house is gone and he can't leave her down there
alone anymore ........June
P.S.  It was only 3K.   The price of the house went down after hurricane
Wilma because of more roof damage.
