Hate that I haven't been around here lately. Have come by and read
some;but feel bad about starting a thread of my own or just answering
one or two, when what I really want to do is read every thread and reply
to much;but not as much time for that lately.
A word of advice for anyone. Get plenty of calcium and or whatever else
you need for strong bones. My Mom's docter says he believes her life
long love of milk is the only reason she hasn't broken or cracked a hip
or some bone since she's gotten older and falls now and then.
I really got tore up for awhile about 6 weeks ago when we were in the
kitchen and I was getting Mom something to eat. I don't know if she
missed her chair when sitting down or what? But I was getting something
out of the fridge when she fell. What got to me was that she fell right
on her left hipbone and she fell hard. Was afraid she might of cracked
or broken it. After a bit Mom got ready for me to help her up and when I
did she wanted to sit right down and go back to eating. :-) Right then I
had more concerns than that;but at least she showed no pain when
standing on her feet and putting weight on her hips and legs,so before
setting down I held her arm and got her to walk a few feet. Still no
show of pain,so she set down and finished her eating. She did get a bad
bruise on her left hip of course and was sore for a few days;but other
than that, she was up and about as usual.
Have a new gal coming in now from home health care. The other lady and
her husband moved. The new one's been coming for about a month now and
things have been working out good. :-) She's more determined than the
other about getting Mom on her bath chair and that's good! LoL I still
help her some with just getting Mom to set down on that chair and
getting her feet and legs over in the bathtub;but she takes it from
there.
I felt so sorry for her Monday because she was so upset. Wish she hadn't
of come that day. Her sister and sister's mother-in-law were here from
Biloxi, Mississippi;but her sister's husband had stayed behind. And they
were all so upset because they couldn't get through to him as Hurricane
Katrina came through there. Next day she told me that had gotten through
and he was OK;but told his wife and mother to stay put here in Texas as
their home in Biloxi had 6 feet of water in it! :-( Horrible mess people
are having to go through down on our U.S Gulf coast area and in my
little area of NE Texas-all the motels here are full of people from
Louisiana who fled from that storm before it hit.
On a lighter note it seems I may soon have the money to build a fence
around part of our yard. At least the backyard and part of the side. Had
sort of hated to ask my brothers and sisters for money for that. Rather
do that one on my own and it won't be all that much because I'm not
planning on building a real fancy fence! :-)
Also may soon be able to buy, build, etc. a few other things I've thought
about for awhile. So that's nice. :-) Nothing that big; but a few things
we need and even a thing or two I've had on my need and or wish list for
awhile! LoL
It's nice to know this group is here even when I don't post that much
and or can't read all I want to sometimes. :-)

Ronny, you've been missed. Tell us what you've been up to lately with
the fowl you have.
Gwen
Ronny:
Thank you Gwen! :-)
No much going with the fowl right now. Still have about 11 older guineas
and 13 younger ones. Gotta get a bigger pen fixed for the younger ones!
A good deal on the guineas is that I don't see any grasshoppers around
here now! :-) Hope to have at least one more setting of guinea eggs
before they quit laying this fall.
Still have a number of quail :-) and we've been eating on their eggs.
Onething nice is the boiled ones are just right bite sized for Mom and
easy for her to eat too. Gotta set more quail eggs this fall too.
One problem with the quail or I should say with me. :-) I have yet to
get myself to butcher any of them yet and I've got to. The ones I have
simply produce too many eggs for us when they're going good and my idea
in getting them started up again here was to eat eggs and quail! Just a
hard part for me to get started on the butchering part;but I'm going to
have to.
Ah and something killed all but 1 of my chickens! :-( So I'm putting off
raising any more of them until I can get a better old pen fixed up for
more. Can't leave the blamed things out at night roosting in the trees
'cause something gets them! :-(
Might raise a few pretty soon though just for eating? The ones my
brother has are mostly Rhode Island Reds and the ones I had before were
ready to eat at 8 weeks old. Guess we should of ate them before the
varmints caught them?! LoL

Ronny I missed you too. I was thinking of you yesterday. I like how
you live simply and treat your mother. I thought maybe your mom was
ill but i'm glad she is ok and also your family in Biloxi.

Ronny:
Thank you Nati. :-) But now the family in Biloxi is not mine;but the
family of the lady that stays with Mom.
Mom has had cellulitis in her lower legs again lately;but it looks like
that is back under control again for now. I just hope it stays that way
for longer this time! But she has just finished up her antibiotics and
other meds for that and her legs look good tonight.
And I'm hoping we can live even more simple pretty soon;but the trouble
with living that way is it also takes some money to get somethings
simplified to start with! LoL So,if all works out as it seems it
will, some of that will be taken care of pretty soon. It's not a huge
amount as some people would look at it;but it's a pretty good amount to
me that I've found out lately that I've been left by a late aunt of
mine. Was real nice of her to remember all of us,her nephews and nieces
in her will. :-) Just don't have any idea though how long it will take
for someone to get all the needed paperwork and such done? Don't know a
thing about that,as I've never inherited anything but my good looks from
my parents! :-) LoL But my sister told me last week about how much it
would be and I've sorta been writing up a short need and a couple of
wants list. :-)
Feels so weird though,as I'm sorry my aunt died; :-( but at the sametime
I'm extremely grateful to her that she remembered us all in her will.
Such will sure be a help around here!

Ronny:
Thank you Evelyn. :-)
Gotta take some time soon to post here about some recent cooking I've
been up to. :-) Nothing fancy-just carrot/banana bread,chocolate cherry
cake and San Francisco Sourdough Bread. Finally got that last one worked
out to where the bread comes out real good! :-)
And one more hot month of summertime here in NE Texas! :-) Our
Septembers are simply about as hot as our Augusts! But it is so nice to
know that October and some cooler weather is not that far off! :-)
