Although I didn't post here often, I used the archives and read many
many posts with personal experiences, information and recommendations.
My mother will be going to an assisted living facility in about a week.
All of us are convinced that this is the best situation for everyone
especially my Mom.  However, this is one of the hardest things I have
ever done.  Yesterday, I could just see the fear in her eyes.  We have
visited many times and everyone we have talked to has told us that this
is the best time for her to go.

I am thankful that this group was here when I needed it and I am sorry
that it will be needed by so many others.

Janice, congratultions on recognizing the need your mother has and taking
care of it.  Best of luck to all the family.  Come back more often.

Hi Janice,

This group was a lifesaver for me too.   That is why I continue to come here
to help others if I can offer anything of value.   It is a tough decision to
put someone in an assisted living or a nursing home, but it usually turns
out to be OK and they usually seem to adjust a lot quicker than we think
they will.

I have an Aunt who is living in an AL facility and she absolutely loves it.
She doesn't have dementia of any kind, but she is just enjoying all the
amenities offered there.

We put my mother in law in a nursing home a little over a year ago, and was
astonished at how well she adapted to the life there, and how quickly she
did so.   I can honestly say it was a good decision and that I don't regret
it for a minute.

I hope all goes well for your mom too.

i'll bet that in a couple of weeks she won't remember much about
the last place she lived, especially if they keep her busy with
activities.

and all your visits can be quality time.

Like you, Janice I got a great deal of help from everyone here when I put
Mum into AL and really appreciated it.  She settled in so well that I still
find it hard to believe.
