the answer is simple, boydette:

1.  turn off your phone
2.  turn off the answering machine
3.  go for a long walk in a quiet natural place.  stop and smell
the flowers.  notice the birds.
4.  when you get home, have a relaxing meal.  read a nice book
full of pleasant stories or thoughts.
5.  repeat steps 3 and 4 until peace arrives.

Boydette, I second what Dennis said.  You have to get away from it by not
being available to her at all, at any time.  For your own health and peace
of mind, you have to put her out of your mind, and out of your life.  Sounds
hard hearted, but it isn't really.  You have to look after yourself first.
And when you take that walk in the woods, yell and scream just as loud as
you can and get all the worry out of your system!

Dear Boydette,

Wish I could help you in some way.   Unfortunately I can't.   The way I see
it, you can only help yourself by keeping away from the situation and
staying in a better space, mentally, for as long as you can.

You have enough on your plate right now just keeping your own head together.
You can't take care of your mom's issues and your own too.

If your mom really is losing it, she will end up in a hospital and perhaps
get properly evaluated and perhaps placed in a nursing home.   Would that be
such a bad thing?   I don't think so, considering how things have been
going.   In fact if she ended up in a nursing home she might be a lot better
cared for than she is right now, and her money would be used to care for
her, rather than to pay for your sister's amusements.

Boydette, I feel sorry that you are going through a bad time.   When that
happens, please back off and just take care of yourself.

From http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsit my local news station:

Last Update: Thursday, August 4, 2005. 1:17pm (AEST)

Australian researchers have discovered that a well-known nerve toxin has a role
in the progression of Alzheimer's disease.

The discovery may mean a drug that is undergoing human trials could be used to
halt the progression of the degenerative disease.

The team from St Vincents Hospital and Sydney University says quinolinic acid
exists in toxic levels in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.

Professor Bruce Brew says it is produced to kill damaged cells.

"In that good response, something goes wrong and you have too much production of
this nerve toxin, which then does damage," he said.

The researchers say drugs trialled on stroke victims attack the pathway where
the acid is made.

If they convince drug companies to turn trials to Alzheimer's patients, they
believe it could bring the first effective drug to the market within several
years.

Hey, thanks for this! I hope it can help my client and have copied and
pasted it to the group I cited in the other post.

This link should work.  It's not the exact article Anthony quoted, but
appears to be the transcript of the on-air interview with Bruce Brew:

http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2005/s1430517.htm

Since quinolinic acid's normal function is cleaning up dead brain
cells, it's possible something else about Alzheimer's is killing brain
cells and the brain is simply pumping this chemical out to try to clean
up.  It may get out of hand and start killing live cells.

The article mentions that nerve toxin is also "important in HIV-related
brain damage," so it's not unique to Alzheimer's.  Brew believes there
may be a treatment here, however, which will be available in "perhaps
some years, but not the usual decade."  I'm sure we'll be hearing
more about this.

Anthony, call St. Vincent's and tell them you want to be on the list
for the drug trials!
