Your computer can help find a cure for deseases as Alzheimer's,
Huntington's and Parkinson's. Idle time on your computer is needed by
the Chemistry Department at Stanford University. One of their research
project uses thousands of computers worldwide to analyze protein
folding. It is believed that flaws in protein folding are responsible
for many such serious deseases.

Here is how you can join in this cooperative effort. Point your
internet browser to http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html. Download
the correct installation program for you computer. Then run the
installation program. The program will run algorithms and merge the
results with those from thousands of other computers.

You should see no effect on your own use of the computer. The
algorithms run only when you are not using the computer's resources.

STOP!!!! BEWARE!!!!!!!!!

It is not a good idea to allow an outside source to use your computer. They
will have access to the history in your computer, including financial info,
passwords, etc.

Even if this is a` legit thing', someone could hack into it and use a
keystroke program to get all your personal info and rip you off.

You are right to be wary of installing unkown  programs on your
computer. However, the following link will show you where you can find
articles in the New York Times, Science Magazine, American Scientist,
BBC News and elsewhere, which will show that this is legit.

As far as I know, folding@home neither requires nor uses such
information for their servers:  I've been contributing computer time to
'em for about four years now, and never had a lick of trouble.  Their
servers are the only point of vulnerability, here, since (unlike all
Windows operating systems) folding@home has absolutely NO back doors to
the personal computers on which it operates.

Nope.  You install folding@home, and you need never use your keyboard
again.  As a matter of fact, with the right OS, you need never use your
keyboard at all.

This is, by the way, a professional opinion:  my business specializes in
computer network security.

Blessed be,
Baird

Quite a few people on alt.support.arthritis take part in this.
