He bombards the newsgroup with posts that are not anything to do with
caregiving, or support. <<

How do I killfile someone? I'm really tired of weeding through his
posts.

I can't blame you.  He is wrecking this newsgroup.

Do you use "outlook express" as your news reader?

OK....

You single click on one of his messages first, which will highlight it.

Then you go to "Message" on your task bar, and a drop down menu will appear.

Go down to "block sender" and click on that.

It will ask you if you want to remove all the messages from him, you hit
"yes" and BINGO no more troll.

*******

If you decide at some point at a later date to remove that person from your
killfile, you go to TOOLS and when you see the drop down menu you go to
"message rules" and choose "block sender list" from there, then you remove
the person and answer OK.

Is there a way to block sender or killfile someone in Netscape?  I would
love to block certain people, but can't figure out how to do it.

Many thanks,

Ronny:
Be glad you can killfile someone. :-) Can't do that with this WebTV box
I have;but can later on when I get online with a computer as well.

And I've been wondering about this poster too. Thught to ask about
him;but thought I would wait a bit. :-) Did read parts of 2 or 3 of his
posts and might of understood 5% of each one?! LoL Is he actually
posting something worth reading about Alzheimers if you could understand
what the posts were saying?! :-)

Hi Ronny,

I don't think so, and I will tell you why.

First of all he is just posting research results verbatim, not particularly
making any point, or as a part of any particular conversation.   It is all
highly technical stuff, hardly anything that could benefit any of us who are
dealing with the illness AFTER the person has been diagnosed.

He has not posted a single word of his own, from what I have seen, nor made
any replies to any of us, nor has he shown any interest in anything going on
in any of our lives who have posted here.  In short he is sort of 'shouting'
all this technical jargon at us, in spite of people stating they aren't
interested in it.

That is typical troll behavior.

Now given the fact that some of this research he is posting is on topic for
the illness has nothing to do with supporting caregivers, or even sufferers
of the illness, which is essentially the reason for this newsgroup, given
its name.

Anyone with a computer can call up research results like this on various
technical websites, so it serves no purpose to post all that stuff here.

I could be wrong, but that is how I see it.

The only thing I've learned from "Dr. Harmon" is how to killfile!  And I
must say I'm taking great pleasure in doing it.  Gives one a bit of power
over these annoying nuisances.

in some email/newsreader programs it's called "block sender" or
"block message", or maybe "filters".  best thing to do is to use
your newsreader's online help & search for "block sender" or
"killfile" or "filters".

Reading this thread has made me feel uneasy.I post the occasional
informational post in the hope someone will benefit from it. I am
wondering whether i should avoid doing so in future.
I do have a partner who sufferers from vascular/stroke related dementia
but do not often post about it as there are caregivers/sufferers here
with greater problems .

To email me add (newsgroups) to subject line.
Anything you see above this is a figment of your imagination.

Thre is a radical difference between an occasional informational post,
and what 'Dr. Harman" is doing.  What he is doing does not actively
contribute to the group but instead floods it with mostly-irrelevent
information.  That bit that is relevent is completely obscured by the
avalanche of that which is not

And, problems are problems, great or small.  Just because something
seems small doesn't mean that it isn't a source of frustration.  It a
big part of the "support" in the newsgroup name that we can all benefit
from the pat on the back when something simple (the salt & sugar thread,
for example) arises.  Just a "Yeah, we've been there, too. It sucks,
doesn't it?" can mean so much, because it means none of us is alone.

Tim, please don't get paranoid about that.  We know you are not a troll.
This Harmon person posts nothing personal EVER, only just data he gets from
elsewhere.

Tim,what you post and what this Harmon person posts are two completely
different things! So don't stop your postings! :-)

Anyone ever wondered why a doctor  has so much time on his hands that he
can bombard a newsgroup with lengthy posts?

Hi,

Yes, exactly.
I think there are a lot of disturbed individuals who enjoy the dubious
attention they receive and who often can misrepresent themselves, or their
credentials on the internet.   Fortunately their ignorance gives them away.
I killfile all trolls.

Romeo it depends upon what newsreader you use.  I use outlook express and
all I have to do is highlight the message, go to "message" on the task bar,
and when the drop down menu appears, click on "block sender"   The guy is a
troll, hope you have success.

Unfortunately, my email program does not support newsgroups.  That's
why I use google to access them, and if anyone out there knows how to
"killfile" when using google groups for access, I'd love to know how to
do that.  Thanks, Romeo
Gwen Love - 23 May 2005 23:39 GMT
Romeo, I don't know of a way to killfile on Google.  Sorry.
