Hope you can get to see it, Gwen.
I am going to send a tray of really nice cookies over to the nurses station
in the alzheimer's unit. They have a tough job and some of the residents
are difficult to deal with. They deserve to be recognized for it.
I think one of the reasons Ida got such superb care was because she had such
a sweet temperament and they liked her. It is probably easier to care for
a kind gentle patient more so than an angry combative one. But those girls
work really hard and are so nice.
I am also going to write a really super good letter of thanks to that
nursing home, giving pats on the back to certain people, the alzheimers
unit, the activities people, and most especially the doctor who took such
good care of her.
Everyone was just wonderful to her and to us there. When you hear the
horror stories some people tell about nursing homes, it is good to know that
there are some people who believe in doing a good job and doing it right,
and with the human touch through it all.

As a Caregiver (not at a Nursing Home, but an Assisted Living that
specializes in Dementia Care) I think your idea of sending notes to them is
wonderful.
I'm a lurker here, pretty new, and I would like to add my own condolences
for your family's loss of the lovely Miss Ida.
I lost my own mother to AD after 13 years of original diagnosis about 3
years ago. I've seen both sides, and I have a pretty good idea of what you
are feeling.
Remember the good times, the laughs and the smiles. Keep those in your
heart and Miss Ida will always be with you.
Bless you,
Pat

Thank you so much Pat, and I hope you do stay here. The sad fact is that
new people are being diagnosed every day with this awful sickness, and they
will need advice as they make this journey.
