We just got some flowers.  Guess who sent it?   The nursing home!
Isn't that a nice touch?

We received a bouquet of flowers, with condolences,  from the nursing home
where my mother in law died on saturday.    It was a nice thought.

That was a thoughtful thing to do.
You've always said you were dealing
with some caring folks there.

Just wondering...did you look at
the sheet music I posted for you?
I copied all the pages and printed
it.......looks pretty good. When you
described how beautiful Ida was it
made me think of searching for it.

John, it was wonderful of you to look it up!   Peter and I both enjoyed it
so much.   I remember hearing old recordings of Al Jolson singing that song
too.

I always tell him how kind the people are on this newsgroup, and I have
shared every single condolence post with him.  It means a lot, especially
because Peter is really Ida's only close relative, with the exception of his
daughter and her baby.

Due to the upheavals in Europe that happened so many years ago, we don't
even have any idea how to even attempt to notify people who may possibly
still remember her from Estonia.   We are hoping that the Estonian people
who read her obituary in the NY Estonian paper will get in touch and spread
the word to one another.

Here is her obituary with some photos.  One photo I took of her about 20
some years ago, and the other is a recent one since she came to live with
us.   They have a guest book in case anyone wishes to sign it.

Thanks for the link.

It's easy to see that Ida was a
real beauty in her younger years.

Evelyn, that really was nice for the NH to send flowers; shows their
character.  My 'puter won't go to the site now but I've saved it so I can
try again later.  Thanks for sharing with us.

Hope you can get to see it, Gwen.

I am going to send a tray of really nice cookies over to the nurses station
in the alzheimer's unit.   They have a tough job and some of the residents
are difficult to deal with.   They deserve to be recognized for it.

I think one of the reasons Ida got such superb care was because she had such
a sweet temperament and they liked her.   It is probably easier to care for
a kind gentle patient more so than an angry combative one.   But those girls
work really hard and are so nice.

I am also going to write a really super good letter of thanks to that
nursing home, giving pats on the back to certain people, the alzheimers
unit, the activities people, and most especially the doctor who took such
good care of her.

Everyone was just wonderful to her and to us there.  When you hear the
horror stories some people tell about nursing homes, it is good to know that
there are some people who believe in doing a good job and doing it right,
and with the human touch through it all.

As a Caregiver (not at a Nursing Home, but an Assisted Living that
specializes in Dementia Care) I think your idea of sending notes to them is
wonderful.

I'm a lurker here, pretty new, and I would like to add my own condolences
for your family's loss of the lovely Miss Ida.

I lost my own mother to AD after 13 years of original diagnosis about 3
years ago. I've seen both sides, and I have a pretty good idea of what you
are feeling.

Remember the good times, the laughs and the smiles.  Keep those in your
heart and Miss Ida will always be with you.

Bless you,
Pat

Thank you so much Pat, and I hope you do stay here.  The sad fact is that
new people are being diagnosed every day with this awful sickness, and they
will need advice as they make this journey.
