has tiger firmly by the tail - 09 Feb 2005 05:01 GMT
He's 5 years older than he was 12 months ago.
Except when quick and innovative His movements are paced and well practiced.
This person does not take frivolous steps, every exercise has a purpose,
his energy is conserved until called upon, and then the energizer bunny is
shamed.
He needed a haircut 2 weeks ago and had a shower this morning but is wearing
the same clothes as yesterday, he smiles slow and speaks calmly, little things
do not bother him.
Once a sound sleeper, an irregular breath from across the hall will wake
him.
His Charge is shaved, neat, clean, and has had a recent pedicure , but there are
remnants of this morning's breakfast on the fresh sweatshirt.
When the older gentleman speaks gibberish the younger man beams and nods
assuredly, just as if his own son had spoke his first words. Once or twice
during the day the care-giver will recieve a glance that says "thanks, I feel
safe with you" and that is when we feel ten feet tall and get prepared for the
next 48 hour day.
Here is my salute to all care givers, you are doing great, when you think
that you have reached the end of your rope. remember that you are making
someone's life better, God Bless and keep up the good work

That's one of the most moving pieces I've ever come across.
