I feel wonderful today--albeit I only woke up at about noon. Not only is it a
lovely cool and breezy day but I feel great -- I'd forgotten what it was like
being alive.

Could it be the 10mg of Aricept kicking in (only about 2 weeks since I increased
the dose from 5mg).

Congratulations, Anthony.  It could be the Aricept.  Are you also
taking Namenda?  The combination helped my mother with her confusion,
sort of brought her into focus better.  It's the best response she's
had to medication:  10 mg Aricept once a day, 20 mg Namenda split into
two 10 mg doses.

Namenda is not available here via the equivalent of your PBS.

Pardon my ignorance Anthony, but do you mean it's not available on our
Australian Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme ...  or just not available here in
Oz?

I'm only a respite carer, and not involved in the medicinal side of things,
so my knowledge in this area is minimal. However, I'm interested and want to
learn more.

No ignorance on your part at all.

As for the "only" above, it's entirely unnecessary :-)

Not (yet) available on the Aussie PBS.

Thanks for that. So you need to pay full price -- is it very expensive?

Couple of grand?? I can see why the subject line of this thread is Wow! But
pensioners/Health Care Card holders would still only pay the $5 (?) per
script, surely?

No, because it's not on the list of subsidised (can't recall the exact term)
drugs :-(

So people who can't afford it just miss out on the potential benefits?!
That's terrible. I hope it's added to the PBS very soon.

Well, I actually have to go for another MMS to ascertain that the Aricept is
helping me - otherwise, kaboosh.

It could be, from what you said in your original post. I hope it is.

Ronny:
I don't know about the meds;but it's nice to hear that you has such a
good day. :-)

I'm up here in rural NE Texas,so it's still winter here. Not bad though
and spring will be here soon. My daffodils have been coming up for a
couple of weeks or so and it looks like a few of them will be blooming
soon. :-)
