For a few months now we've had this lady,a greatniece of my Mom's/my 2nd
cousin, coming to watch and take care of Mom. This is though some
government program and a local home health care business. So my cousin
has been coming twice a week,4 hours at a time. Now,if I understand
everything correctly Mom will be getting 4 more hours of in home health
care? :-) So my cousin will be coming 4 days a week-2 hours on some
days.

Today I've got to get her to write down for me exactly what day and
hours she's coming next week? That so I can make some plans of my own as
to what I will and can be doing when she's staying with Mom?

It's funny that I didn't quite know what to do with all of my time when
she first started coming twice a week for 4 hours at a time! LoL Sure
one day was for grocery shopping, getting Mom's meds and anything else
that needed doing in our local town. But I didn't always need to do that
twice a week! :-) [Better get off of here in a little bit though as my
cousin is coming in about and hour and I do need to go to town today.]

Now,as I understand it so far,I'll have two more days with 2 hours in
each that I can be doing somethings that I could not do otherwise. That
will be nice. :-) Nothing big;but sometimes I will just be able to up
and go over to a brothers place and borrow my garden tiller back when I
want to use it. :-) Or maybe run over to his house or a sisters to
borrow a tool I need for something. Both of them live just a few miles
from here so it will be nice to be able to choose do that up to 4 days a
week. As now it's usually just one day because I nearly always need to
go shopping on the other day.

Onething that bothered me the other day was that I simply wanted to walk
down to our farm pond for a bit and then it hit me that I really
couldn't. I couldn't take Mom with me as the weather wasn't nice enough
and she was sick some at the time. And I couldn't see leaving her locked
up in the house. That certainly didn't seem like the safest or best idea
even though she is able to stay by herself and usually not get into any
real trouble. The problem with that being I never know when she might
and or when she might need my help bad.

So this added 4 hours a week to Mom's home health care time will really
be nice for me. I'll be able to do a few more things when I pretty well
want to. LoL And that's going to be nice even when it's seen as just
doing little things. :-)

In my opinion, you need far more time than that.  For one thing,
you need some time for exercise or a walk *every* day, and at
least a couple of respite days every month.  Why aren't the
siblings you mention doing a day with Mom once in a while?

Are there any day care programs in your area?

Every caregiver needs to take care of her or himself so that she
or he can do a good job, and having time off is part of that.
