we had a very nice Christmas, in spite of all sorts of family feuds re: who got what day to do what (once again, I ~got~ to spend Christmas Day here, mama-sitting rather than with my kids *sigh*) But it wasn't as bad as last year .... guess we're all getting used to it - and I'm going back down to see them again tomorrow... I don't start work again til after New Years, but we kept our home care, so figure that some of those hours can be me time ...and the rest can be 'building my business' time But even though we really kept things low key, the whole Christmas thing has thrown my poor MIL for a loop ... she's making even less sense than usual, got all sorts of (totally unfounded) worries and way off base beliefs .... trying to reassure her/address her concerns wasn't working, so finally we just started saying yes to everything ...or giving nonsensical answers ... easier to keep our tone light/relaxed, if nothing else... and since she's really only ~getting~ tone, not words, doesn't really make much difference, I guess. I would like to say I feel the same way.. dreaded it...but Christmas went well enough.. Tomorrow Don will go to dental surgeon for an extraction...fingers crossed that it goes well Poor fellow just doesn't know anything that happens. He always had beautiful teeth & a great smile.. I'm glad Its a back tooth . The dentist & I agree it should come out before there are real problems. so I.put it off 'til after Christmas.. [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > > Florence hope all goes well, florence. when ida first came under our care it became quite evident that she had neglected her teeth in the earlier stages of her illness. we had to get her dental care up to speed right away. this meant a couple of extractions and a new removable bridge. the work went fine, but she was unable to remember that she had teeth removed and could not remember the care instructions her dentist gave. she was not supposed to rinse the tooth sites out and we kept having to stop her. she just could nor remember. when we got the new bridge made we asked the dentist to etch her name onto it. this was a good idea, since they sometimes get misplaced in a nursing home. even though (at that time) we had no intentions of placing her in one, time changed that, and she is now in a facility. best to all of you. But , cannot figure out what happened to the piece of gauze he was supposed to bite on for 20 minutes.. Another unanswered question?? It was a 45 min drive home from Ft. Worth. I was quite sure the teeth had been pulled when Larry was a kid so I decided I'd better give the dentist a heads up. I stopped by the office, had a quick chat with the office staff and the dentist. They assured me (even brought up the old x-rays) that they had never pulled any teeth. Doesn't it make you wonder how long these things spin around in our LO's imaginations and how the ideas must bounce from pillar to post? I believe it only has to make sense to the AD person. I find most people are so kind. Everyone seems to have a relative or friend who is dealing with or has dealt with someone with AD.. The teenagers who work in the grocers, drugstores etc are great. Ruth He's probably scraping the bottom of his memory barrel for dentist references and remembering the teeth being pulled. When I was a kid I screamed the whole time I was in the dentist chair. I'm sure if I ever come down with AD, I'll remember that time the longest, and give any dentist I'm taken to an earful. We have the curse of the Christmas birthdays - we have three kids, and two of the three have holiday birthdays - one Christmas Day birthday, and one Boxing Day. Xmas morning, we do the Santa presents...and then that night is our middle son's birthday dinner...which means he gets to pick, which explains why we had chicken fingers, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and a cheese cake instead of turkey. Next night is our daughters birthday dinner, and tonight is the big family dinner. We partly delay the dinner to spread the stress-load out, and to be able to scrape up some relatives to give our kids a sense of family. Both sets of our parents are dead, and hubbie was an only child - and I have only one sibling who lives 1500 miles from here. So...the closest family we can come up with is cousins and they all have their own family things to go to Christmas and Boxing Days. To complicate menu planning matters, two of them are Conservative Jews (i.e. a family member married and converted...to the amazement of her Gentile parents, including an Italian Catholic mother). Then, tomorrow is a dinner with family friends (some of which are staying with us because of overflow at their mother's home)...and then the NEXT night is our annual holiday open house, which will probably mean 40 or 50 guests in the door! Next life, I'm going to time my babies a little better! Mary G. Mary, my sympathy on your timing. Grayson's birthday was 12/26, our anniversary was 12/29 and my birthday is 01/01. We just did everything at Christmas!
