Hi all

Don't post too much but read all the time.  Mum was placed 10 months ago and
all was well until it got hot in the summer when the window was not
'allowed' to be open and it got boiling in her room.  We took in a big fan
and complained and then eventually they moved her to a downstairs room which
they said would be cooler.  Cooler!!! It is freezing.  Twice I have found
Mum in bed with all her clothes on trying to keep warm and have complained 8
times.  I finally contacted the inspectors (this is UK) and they offered to
take the matter up but suggested I put my complaint in writing first, so I
have.  They are still putting the heating on a time switch and finally today
I was furious and they sent a handyman to look at the radiator who admitted
it was broken.  I am furious.  If I had room I would have brought her back
home with me, but my husband is very ill and we have no room, but I am
devastated.

I have her name down for an excellent establishment with a really good
reputation but they have no vacancies at present.   Sorry to vent but I am
really stressed out.

I can contact the inspectors who will take complete control of my complaint
but don't want to make things worse for Mum.

Hi Barb,

you should definitely report them, I very much doubt they would take it out
on your mum, and what about the next person and the one after that who will
be in that room and in that establishment.

I know.  Strangely enough when I went to look at the home I have now put her
down for,  they showed me a lady's room, assured me she wouldn't mind, which
she didn't.  I could not believe it - it was the previous tenant of Mum's
room - I recognised the name on the door and they confirmed it.

What bothers me most is that Mum's present home told me that the woman who
had had the room she is in now was so ill that she had to go into nursing
care and that was a total lie, she was happily making Christmas cards and
laughing and joking with the staff.  I am just worried that if I say too
much they will take  it out on Mum

Hard to see how anyone who had a brain cell could do that, but still I
understand your concern. ALl I can say is that until you complain (about
anything not just homes) nothing changes.
