yes, i noticed the same thing with my mother in law. ultimately she would
always eat homemade soup, so i made lots of it and froze it so i always had
it on hand in a good variety. you couldn't fool her with canned soup
either, no matter how expensive it was. i am a very good cook and she
loved my soup.

my MIL does the same thing...right now is in a not eating stage... she's
losing weight (and the dog is gaining LOL)
We supplement with Ensure - and try to keep the dog occupied while she eats
(today I took her to a restaurant and she was holding food under the table
and dropping it on the floor - very confused by the fact that there was no
dog to eat it for her)

Mom stopped eating foods she used to like. I believe some of it had to
do with how easy it was to eat (using fork or fingers--she preferred
finger food). Also her taste probably changed as she would eat peaches
and some fruits--as long as they were cut into bite-size bits.
