Good morning all! <s>
We made it through my car problems...with less trouble then I was
expecting and that sure taught me a lesson. Worry and panic do nothing
to help anyone! Rolling with the punches is a better way to go <s>
I now have a 2003 Malibu, albeit with more "bells and whistles" than I
wanted--but, oh how nice it is!
And in learning to drive this marvel, I have been shown a valuable
lesson. I have gotten confused about what button does what--touching
one and all the windows start going up or down, locking myself out and
in!, finally realizing that the lights come on when I start the engine
and go off seconds after I get out of the car. Nice things, but
confusing as heck! Which helped me understand more about how my Mum
probably feels when she is trying to do some things and can't...how
scary and confused it feels to her. I can laugh at my misadventures
with the car as it's entirely new to me, but she is doing old things
and it's got to be a big source of frustration and fear for her...
My husband Nick took her to her shrink appt so I was not able to get
her to sign the paper for me to talk with her...but will see about
adding the shrink's name when we go for her follow up with her pcp.
Mum has her own take on what the pcp told her about the foods she
can't eat on her potassium-restricted diet and is refusing all sorts
of good foods. So I have printed out what I found and will take it
with me on next appt and talk about it with her pcp--in front of her.
Although she may not remember, she'll have the printout and we can
refer to it. That may or may not help, but she has lost a pound
already so I have to at least try...
My Dad is in another decline and this seems to have brought on a
decline in Mum also. I know it may be a coincidence, but it makes me
wonder if she is reacting to it and can't verbalize her feelings.
On another note, I have to do something about a newsreader (or contact
my ISP), because I am getting very few messages from this group and my
arthritis group.
Any suggestions welcomed!
May this day bring all of us moments of peace...

Dear Donnah,
Congratulations on the car, and on the progress.... :-)
This group sometimes suddenly does go a bit quiet from time to time. I
noticed it too, so I don't think it is your newsreader or your ISP that is
the fault.

thank you, Evelyn!
especially from tech support as they would have been checking it out
for me <g>
I just got home from a *very* long day with my parents. Mum had her
vascular study done on her legs today and it really wore her out--she
was so happy to be out but she was exhausted when we got home...
But a neat thing happened when I was waiting for her. Jason (the man
who is setting up the Friday help for them) was visiting at the
hospital and we were able to talk. He asked me if I thought Mum would
be more comfortable with a young or older helper, and Mum had just
stated that she hoped the woman coming in was older since young people
don't know how to clean properly. <s> Jason said the older woman was a
real stickler for cleaning right--she'll make lunch and get right to
it. So I am hoping that this will work out even a bit easier than I am
expecting. Mum always kept a spotless house (this daughter on the
other hand does not...lol) so maybe...might be wishful thinking,
but--nuts! I guess I'm looking for any sign that this will go all
right! I so want for this to be easy for them, and I admit for me,
too.
sigh, bring on the guilt...

thank you, Evelyn...
it feels strange to me that I look for/need these so-called "signs"
that something/anything will work out.

thanks, Gwen!
I keep telling myself that but it helps to be reminded <s>
I am making the connection that when I am tired it's harder for me to
fight off feeling guilty...about anything and everything. So it's
giving me another reason to take better care of myself, too.

I have this problem sometimes at Best/Verio.
You can always read groups at
http://groups.google.com
Just type alt.support.alzheimers into the search box.
Some groups may be closed, but the alt. ones should all be open.
In order to post to it, you have to create a google account.
