Could sks please explain why procyclidine/kemadrin is contraindicated in
dementia? My wife used to be on this to try and combat restless legs but was
taken off it by her psychiatrist.

Kemadrin prevents binding of acetylcholine in the brain--this is
essentially the opposite of what AD drugs do.  A quick search turned
up the following *potential* side-effects (note the last 4).

Darryl.

   * Dry mouth
   * Blurred vision
   * Constipation
   * Difficulty passing urine
   * Nausea (feeling as if you are about to vomit)
   * Vomiting
   * Red swollen gums
   * Nervousness/anxiety/agitation
   * Rash
   * Dizziness
   * Mental confusion, disorientation
   * Problems with memory and understanding
   * Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren't real)
   * Disordered thinking
