Hi...

How long does it usually take for Zyprexa to become effective in calming angry
outbursts?

My mom took her first pill (a very low dose, her doctor said) last night.  She
slept like a log all night for the first time in I don't know when, which is
terrific, but now that she is up she is easily agitated.  It probably doesn't
help that the apartment is in a bit of disarray because I had to get rid of
ants in the kitchen.

I was told Zyprexa is fast acting, but is one day too soon to look for results?
(I hope so.)  Thanks.

most psych meds take several weeks to build up to an effective
blood level, although you might see some temporary effects
sooner, such as you have.  the longer she takes it, the longer it
will take to wear off.

took a week or two for my MIL... helped with sleeping right off ... but to
reduce the agitation etc otherwise took longer ....

Thanks, that's good news.

Rose, your doctor should have told you - Zyprexa takes up to 4 weeks
to be fully effective - this is similar to many psychiatric drugs. You
can't judge their usefulness on the basis of the first few days or
even weeks.

Thanks much.
