Galantamine is the active ingredient in Reminyl which is one of the
front-line treatmeants of AD. From a safety point of view, it has
been studied thoroughly; however, I would not use an herbal form in
the treatment of AD. The manufacturer may claim 4 or 8 mg (can't
recall the exact dose) but due to different growing conditions,
packing methods, etc., you may getting more or less of the active
ingredient in addition to a host of other unknown compounds.

GI side-effects are common with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. Do
you have a loved one that you suspect suffers from AD? If so, get
them to a doctor for a proper workup. If they've been diagnosed and
have been prescribed another AD drug (Aricept, etc.), adding
galantamine could be dangerous.
