hi,

Anyone have dosage info about clioquinol as a possible
drug for dissolving the copper and zinc left in amyloid
deposits without causing toxicity  ?

tests on mice seem pretty conclusive but no-one is saying
what the best guess safe dosage for humans is either as
treatment or pre-emptive application to those at risk...

Anyone here from Australia see the item on ABC (Channel 2)
on Catalyst a few weeks back ?

There's been at least one human study that looked at Clioquinol in the
treatment of AD (Arch. Neurol. 2003;60:1685-1691).  It was a phase 2
clinical trial of only ***36*** patients.

Weeks    0-12    125 mg bid (twice daily)
Weeks    13-24    250 mg bid
Weeks    25-36    375 mg bid

Clioquinol should only be used under the supervision of a doctor due
to a risk of B12 deficiency and something called subactute myelo-optic
neuropathy.

Thanks Darryl,

Interesting, would like to know how the dose is arrived at,
solubility/persistence in spinal fluid, toxicity limits,
invasive tests of distribution/flow - opinions ?

Must be a cultural joke/thing, over here ABC is "Australian
Broadcasting Corporation" government funded, nothing to
do with ABC in USA, Channel 2 is the analog channel,
as is 2 in SD digital but HD is 20, which doesnt have
much content. My agent is from Canada, Vancouver :-)

Basic item was some Australian researches came up with
old antibiotic Clioquinol to 'handle' the copper and zinc found at
amyloid deposits, repeated again on a comemrcial station
just yesterday. My 71 yr old mom had her first CT scan
today, not sure yet of clinical diagnosis but AD is a
first candidate unfortunately.
