bad for the fish and good for humanity.' -- O.W. Holmes, (Prof. of Med.
Harvard University)

4. 'Drug medications consists in employing, as remedies for disease, those
things which produce disease in well persons. Its materia medica is simply a
lot of drugs or chemicals or dye-stuffs in a word poisons. All are
incompatible with vital matter; all produce disease when brought in contact
in any manner with the living; all are poisons.' -- R.T. TraIl, M.D., in a
two and one half hour lecture to members of congress and the medical

9. 'Medicine is only palliative, for back of disease lies the cause, and
this cause no drug can reach.' -- Wier Mitchel, M.D.

Medicine.

when the entire structure of medical knowledge is built around the idea that
there is an entity called disease which can be expelled when the right drug
is found?' -- John H. Tilden, M.D.

Nice post Carole.

In addition, I would add that in Trall's lecture #4 above, one of
those in attendance was none other than ole Honest Abe ( Abraham
Lincoln ) himself.

I also like:
The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his
patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and
prevention of disease.
Thomas A. Edison, 1847-1931.

"Medicine is a collection of uncertain prescriptions, the results of
which taken collectively, are more fatal than useful to mankind.
Water, air, and cleanliness are the chief articles in my
pharmacopoeia."
Napoleon Bonaparte.

You would think so.  Of course, half of her quotations were even older
than your beloved orthopaths, meaning they have essentially no
significance to today's world.

As I was saying.  No relevance.

And who gives a damn what Edison thought about this?  He also thought
you could block gravity if you just had the right alloy.

Probably a much safer approach at the time.  But again, 200 years
later, so what?

These are my opinions only, but they're almost always correct.
"There are two kinds of Republicans:  millionaires and suckers."

Well, actually the only relevance is to Chuckle's world.
His "orthopathy" is, at base, 18th century conventional
medicine with a few minor variations.  The whole "innate
intelligence" thing, for instance, is straight from 17th
century medical schools.  As is his insistence that the
symptoms of illness are the result of the body's attempts
to "purify" itself, and thus should be aided.
