I know there is someone "connected" with Comcast here on the hot shot
list. I do appreciate the free wireless internet, but I really would
prefer my own. These explains totally how information I was sending
in emails got looped around back to people I barely have even heard
of. Hmm..I've heard of cloning before......but really, I despise
Comcast with a passion and most of the mucky yucks
connected....especially the comcast thugs.

wow....can understand your agnst....
I first thought it was only "wireless access" that you asked
about....apparently it is indeed possible to access a wireless server from
an adjacent neighbor etc...just last week a guest at our desert house was
winging thru the Internet on his laptop...as I sat at the same table using
the dial up (yuck) that I had connected "legally" thru our phone
line....when I asked HOW he was getting wireless when I didn't have it in
the house...he said it is very easy if a close by neighbor has DSL and
wireless..unfortunately we couldn't get it to work with MY laptop (we
tried)....as the wireless software in my laptop had not been "configured"...
as for the hacking ID theft etc that you are experiencing...that is scarier
(to me) .....
a few months ago one early sunday morning we got a call from a bank handling
my hubby's credit card...their computer systems had noticed a multitude of
charges ..made via Internet..using his credit card numbers...apparently the
"good" credit card banks etc have software that cruise for such unusual
activity....we immediately cancelled that card..or actually they gave us a
new number...the next two month's bills contained over $2000 worth of online
purchases...we still have no clue how some crook got us number...but the
last two times he had used the card was at a gas station and a small
store...."they" say clerks etc can make a copy of your legitimate receipt
with your numbers on it...then "sell" the number to online crooks...luckily
the bank was on the ball...and very helpful...we had to fill out an avadifat
(spelling ??) ...have it notarized...stating we never made such
charges...it was sent to a fraud dept at the bank...we have never heard
another thing
once I had MY credit card company call me about charges that I had
made...one day at the home address...the next at our desert address...they
wondered how I shopped at stores 100 miles away...this time it was
legit...and they supposedly made a notation that we had two homes ....thus
shopping at groc store at location A one day...and drugstore B the next
day...were possible..infact happen all the time...
this ID theft scam is very scarely...and the theives have so many ways of
stealing your identity...
we were told to make sure all computer sites..ie we do on line banking
...etc had that magic "encryption" page...
I almost daily get emails etc from false sites..asking to update our banking
info...etc..plus all kinds of junk saying I bought so and so from Ebay
(which I have never used)...once I talked to our bank..they gave me some
tips...firstly....check the source of the email by getting full headers...if
it says for instance "overseas source"...then you know it is phoney...bank
also told me it was way safer to CALL them on the phone rather than click on
sites that were phoney...these crooks are very good at copying pages that
look identical to the real ones
personally....I would doubt your problem is an "inside the ng" issue....
keep us informed...and good luck...
btw...spyware is to protect YOUR computer...not to surf another person's

I know of no one who likes Comcast. My friend did not move to a
community served only by them, as he relies on quality connections for
his business.
