For those participating, it is important to understand this Newsgroup
is an "open" internet forum. As such, those participating in dialogue
need to remember postings are saved and archived for retrieval at any
time.
If you are in any type of litigation, it may be in your best interest
to guard what you say here, and decline sharing personal information
about yourself. In fact, it’s a good idea to protect your privacy
regardless. Real agendas, of those posting to or reading this board
may not be known.
There have been incidents of misguided individuals contacting aging
parents, children, spouses and employers, of those they have
difference of opinions with! This is an additional reason to choose
your involvement with this board wisely.
In addition, simply because a person on this board is giving what
APPEARS to be a legitimate identity, and is PURPORTING to have an
interest in health issues, or is an advocate, simply doesn't make it
so.
Because the possibility of collecting up information (to possibly be
used against them in litigation), and/or the ability to solicit
donations from them for "non-profit" purposes, or for other nefarious
reasons makes newsgroups a natural place to dwell.
If a person purporting to be an advocate regularly uses foul or
disrespectful language in their communication on this board, they are
likely offending a good portion of the public in so doing. When these
individuals offend the public, they are in the process of dividing
public opinion against the collective community of those they proclaim
to be advocating for, and are often seen as a PR nightmare to those
they represent.
There is a very old adage (and a game show), that a chain is only as
strong as it's weakest link. Collectively, mankind can only progress
or achieve, as much as the weakest link will allow.
Advice regarding legal representation on this board, is only as good
as the person doing the steering, and that steering may be in a
direction 180 degrees the opposite direction of where you need to go.
This "IS" a place to discuss and debate the pro's and con's of
alternative health. Although it may have been the intent of the
original charter to expect respectful dialogue, newsgroups dwell in
the wild, wild west of the internet, and no mandates can be really
imposed, other than those enforced by Google, or other providers of
newsgroups.
Unfortunately, due to the loose nature of this board, there have been
ongoing, arguments, fighting and disputes between individuals, which
have little to do with health interests.
It is imperative that you “attempt” to keep your life private. For
the sake and safety of your privacy, it is likely a good idea to adopt
a screen identity, and provide little personal information about
yourself. More than most newsgroups, this newsgroup seems to be over
populated with those obsessed with investigating the lives of others,
and then broadcasting that information to the internet, web sites, and
this newsgroup. Yet, many of those suffering from investigation
obsession, tend to enjoy hiding in the shadows when it comes to
revealing information about themselves!

Actually, there are ways of preventing your posts from being archived.

Yes, I understand that. However, it doesn't keep those who wish to
snip and paste parts of your postings out of context and repost them.
Then it can almost be worse than not having your originals archived to
prove what you actually said.
In nearly every situation with newsgroups - it's a good idea to be
cautious. The privacy issues are the worst!

That is true, however that doesn't stop some from snipping and pasting
parts of your postings out of context, and then reposting for their
own agenda. Thus having your originals in the archives to prove what
you actually said can be of benefit.
Still, protecting your privacy as much as possible is important when
it comes to newsgroups! There is an over abundance of idiots and busy
bodies out there, seeming hell bent on investigating into the afairs
of of others, and then rather misguidedly jettisoning that information
to this forum, or using it to contact aging parents, children,
employers, etc.
Just be cautious!

Google isn't the only archive, Richard.
If one has a Usenet ISP, one can have their own
personal archive.
