Alarming Statistic on Source of Prescription Drugs in the U.S.

>  80% of all drugs prescribed in the U.S. are manufactured in other countries
>  More than 560 Chinese facilities produce prescription drugs for the U.S. market
>  FDA inspected less than 3% of these off-shore prescription drug facilities last year

And how does the oversight and quality assurance for the
materials referenced compare to that for regulated
pharmaceuticals?

Offhand, I'm not seeing that the bad news on sloppy Chinese
regulation and inspection of heparin and the like does
anything to improve the picture on Chinese products that
don't even pretend to be regulated or inspected.

DC---I think it it is time to demand American products.  People have
gotten the "Walmart" mentally
when it comes to buying ---all of their stuff pretty much comes from
China---we've had our animals poisoned,our
children poisoned, and now the pharmaceuticals.  --- what's
next----????

I think Americans need to put their feet down and say, "no more." And
support our own economy.

That question rests on a logical fallacy.  If a drug is not inspected,
in what sense has it been regulated?  If you are merely referring to
the *development* stage of a drug, so what?   Vioxx has likely killed
more than 50,000 and HRT may have caused even more life threatening
diseases in women over the years.  Quality-made supplements from
reputable firms are often compliant with GMP standards and several of
them provide an assay on request.

So you admit that these prescription drugs are twice as risky due to
poor regulation on *both* sides of the ocean.

I would also like to see your response to Bee's excellent point.
