Misc. Health.Alternative - the Newsgroup

The father of this newsgroup, "Peter Kaminski" in October 1992 set out
a proposal for a formal request for discussion on the creation of a
new newsgroup called "Misc.health.alternative," which would be used
for the discussion of alternative health care issues.  I'm copying the
website information so that everyone can read up on the information
and learn why this newsgroup was started, and what the intent of the
'father' of this newsgroup had envisioned.

What I think is important from the founding father's outlook was that,
"flames, name-calling and abusive behavior in general (from either
side) will be discouraged, but constructive criticism and arguments
will be encouraged, with the caveat that MISC.HEALTH.ALTERNATIVE is to
be a generally non-technical discussion group. ("sci.skeptic" or
"sci.med" would be more appropriate for extended technical
discussions, but technical discussions would be welcome in misc.
health.alternative," was well.).

Another important point is, "Scientific proof or verificability of
facts will *not* be required in misc.health.alternative, although
posters should keep their credibility in mind.  Even though
verificability will not be required, posters are urged to post only
what they believe to be true, and to post or be prepared to post
citations, references, sources, etc."

In November 1992, this newsgroup became official, and was created. 16
years in existence!!

What I find of interest are the individuals that posted against having
this newsgroup here in the first place.  In this website, all of the
names of those individuals that voted for and against are there.

There is one name that sticks out in the not in favor of list---a
classical musician or musical conductor  I believe.    Scott
Ballantyne.  Why is this name familiar?

Interesting comment, Bee.

In MY opinion, when industry learns to "play nice," this place won't
be needed any more.  Sorry, but I couldn't get the link to work (?)

Here is how I got there, by clicking on this link in the first place--
I went looking for
who started this.

Thanks to you both for clarifying.

You will absolutely love getting into these OLD archives when the
group just started in 1992----it clearly shows about the exchange of
ideas was grand.  There is even some holistic dentistry, and
apparently the father of this newsgroup was not a big fan of
vaccinations!

I guess there would not have been any fabricated personalities on the
newsgroup in those days.  Who did people not have real discussions
with?  Did they *not-not* drink Coke Classic?  ;)

It is very interesting, I've gone back over those "no" votes for this
newsgroup, and they seem to have come out of the
world of music---at mostly educational institutions.  What does
alternative health care have to do with musicians?

The PR project uses false trails whenever it feels the need to conceal
more revealing affiliations.  They are somewhat less fussy about it
these days.

Still does not work. Why not use www.tinyurl.com since there seems to
be an error in your post.

Gee, in my opinion, when the alties begin to "play nice" (by stopping
personal attacks, posting private information, contacting spouses and
employers, stopping putting people's names in subject lines, etc.
etc.) things will change.

Of course, it is an alternative link, and it is missing.

When are you going to *start* playing nice, Mark?

If you want war, keep it up.

If you want peace, leave me alone. Do not post to or about me.

Your choice. I am quite capable of doing both.
