Based upon post-marketing reports first reflected in a November 2007
labeling update, Pfizer today updated the CHANTIX label in the U.S. to
include a warning that patients who are attempting to quit smoking
with CHANTIX should be observed for serious neuropsychiatric symptoms,
including changes in behavior, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal
ideation and suicidal behavior.

Donna, what does this have to do with alternative medicine?

An EEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVIIIIIILLLLL drug company has found that a
medication intended to help people stop smoking may enhance some of
the normally-experienced psychological effects of withdrawal from
nicotine addiction.

Tobacco is a plant and nicotine is a natural chemical.

Therefore, there are two ways this story is related to alternative
medicine:

1) It provides an opportunity for pharma bashing

2) The pharma company was making a product which deterred people from
taking a natural medication.

Simple.

That news being that a pharmaceutical company had taken action as the
result of post-market experience with a medication. I suppose to you
this form of corporate responsibility is unusual, but you do support
the quackery industry where post-market record keeping is
non-existent.

If you ever decide to give up smoking, Jan, you might very well
experience all these effects without any drug being involved at all. I
had them all (except those related to suicide) and I was taking
nothing.

I wonder if those same symptoms will accompany the tobacco and
cocaine vaccines when they get to human trials?  I can only
imagine the effect on someone addicted to both after getting
a treatment that causes them to become totally ineffective.

Any health issue is appropriate here.

No, that is not true.  Since you've been informed of the truth,
repeatedly, your statement is a lie.
This newsgroup exists for the discussion of health alternatives, both
pro & con.

Since you and Ilena just want to talk-up mainstream medicine, you
should take it to a newgroup that discusses mainstream medicine.
Otherwise, people will be posting stuff about who works at what
college, what religion a given poster is, and stalking people's family
members.

What's the matter, Jan, got nothing to say about health alternatives?
