bubbabubbs@yahoo.com - 24 Apr 2007 21:25 GMT Where can I buy unshelled nuts (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts) in the Denver/Boulder, CO area? I haven't seen them lately anywhere at Whole Foods, Wild Oats, King Soopers or Safeway's.
Thanks

I haven't seen them lately | anywhere at Whole Foods, Wild Oats, King Soopers or Safeway's. You should know that unshelled nuts get faster rancid than those in the shell. Therefore I always prefer to buy the "complete" stuff and crack them myself just shortly before I need them.

Most stores have nuts in the shell mostly at the holidays - and then they're in the produce section, in my area, anyway. I bought them ahead one year (to use on pinecone decorations) and the mice found them in my storage area and ate all the almonds. They couldn't quite get through the pecan shells, though - too big and too slippery for those little mousey teeth. LOL.)

But then, I use nutcrackers, not mouse-teeth. (perhaps that is what I am doing wrong, I shall have to patent a type of mouse-tooth almond opener some time) --

Do you mean nuts that are still in the shell or nuts which have been removed from the shell?

I am referring to New Jersey, but perhaps the same is true in your area.
Laura - 30 Apr 2007 11:16 GMT Here in Ohio I only see them in ordinary grocery stores around the winter holiday's.
