Hi, this has been on my mind for sometime now, and I wanted to ask you
all a few questions. I have read an article at 'Is Ephedra safe?'

Which says:
Ephedra, also known as ma huang and by its scientific name, Ephedra
sinica, is an herbal product that comes from an evergreen plant. The
Chinese used these plants 5,000 years ago, possibly for the treatment
of asthma and hay fever.
The FDA has banned the sale of ephedra because the product has been
linked to heart attacks, strokes, and some deaths.
Although ephedra's ability to enlarge airways to the lungs has long
been known, there are no long-term studies on its effectiveness in
people with asthma or on how it might fit into an asthma treatment
plan.

While it must be true, I wonder what you have to say about it. Do let
me know!
Regards,
Sherry

For a long time Ephedra was THE help for asthma, then idiot Jocks overdid
it.
It is only slightly more dangerous than aspirin and not as dangerous as
Vodka.

not true

ephedra causes increased heart rate,,,irritability..etc...which in my book
makes it a tad more dangerous than aspirin...vodka is not in the same
ballpark..

problem with "supplements" as most should know..is that there is no way you
know how much or how pure an ingredient you might be getting...

there are safer meds for asthma

You are ignorant.
Ephedra was prescribed (suggested) very often by tens of thousands of
doctors.

and your point is??

at least allopaths are NOT so "ignorant" as to ignore data that points to
dopes like YOU who may mis use any "drug"...

still waiting for you to post your medical qualifications..ie
education,,,experience..degrees etc...

yeah I know you purport to have most every pHd known to mankind....tho it is
well known that many such degrees are purchasable online or off matchbooks

REAL educated folks have degrees that can be substantiated ...

talk about ignorant??

actually pathetic better describes you tho

I was refering to regular, traditional doctors.

And you are a LIAR.

No matter what I say, you wouldn't believe it.

Where is that massive list of deaths caused by ephedra?  he he he he he he
he

I think ephedra is / was a dumb answer to all it was used for, but there is
no sense lying about it.  Light doses did help clear sinuses.

Yes, it caused an increase in heart rate independant of need.  The simple
minded jocks THOUGHT they increased output.  Real tests showed the opposite
except for possible placebo effects where the atlete ASSUMED he could do
more and thus did.
A few died  (as far as I can find about 3) because they should not have been
on the feild in the first place.  About 10 died in similar circumstances.
The headlines were about the ones who took DRUGS (ephedra).

Perhaps you are the one who should be using a dictionary.  He didn't
say anything about what constitutes "traditional" medicine, and your
statement is false anyway.  The word "traditional" used in reference
to medicine is only consistent with historical use of traditional
Chinese medicine (TCM), predating pharmaceutical drugs by several
thousand years.  The fact that industry has bastardized the English
lexicon to create a false association for the purpose of marketing
doesn't make it true.

> what a doofus you are...pathetic actually

What's pathetic is that you have nothing to say and posted three times
to prove it.  Your failure to answer his question below is ample proof
of that.

Well, Hawki?

Please give the reference for the study or research that proves this.

Go consult with a  doctor who has been in the specialty of breathing or
Asthma disorders for more than ten years.

THEN see if you can find more than a very few documented anecdotal deaths
associated with ephedra, especially non sports oriented.

You are here making comments.  The assumption is that you have done a little
studying on it and not in the local "health" magazine.

Ephedra (Ma Huang) is still available in the USA.  As a licensed
acupuncturist, I use it on occasion.
It is usually less than 10% (often 2-3%) by weight of any formula in
which it is used.  It is used for
certain colds & allergies...the same conditions one might take
pseudophed.  It is also used for some urinary
blockages.

The important this to know is that it is not intended for long-term
use.  Actually, it is seldom used for more than 3-4 days and it is
contraindicated in many cases.  It is not only contraindicated for
many cardiovascular conditions, many Rx meds & herbs make it
an unnecessary risk.

As for Asthma, Gecko is a better "herb" and Acupuncture itself is
preferable to herbs.  There are 4 basic types of Asthms (Xiao Chuan)
in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  There are approximately 8 formulas
that are commonly used and only one has ephedra.
