ironjustice - 27 Mar 2007 14:58 GMT Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2007 Mar 23; [Epub ahead of print]Cannabidiol attenuates high glucose-induced endothelial cell inflammatory response and barrier disruption.Rajesh M, Mukhopadhyay P, Batkai S, Hasko G, Liaudet L, Drel VR, Obrosova IG, Pacher P. NIAAA, Laboratory Physiological Studies, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, United States.
A non-psychoactive cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) has been shown to exert potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, and has recently been reported to lower the incidence of diabetes in non-obese diabetic mice and preserve the blood-retinal barrier in experimental diabetes. In this study we have investigated the effects of CBD on high glucose (HG)-induced, mitochondrial superoxide generation, NF- kappaB activation, nitrotyrosine formation, iNOS and adhesion molecules ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 expression, monocyte-endothelial adhesion, transendothelial migration of monocytes, and disruption of endothelial barrier function in human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs). HG markedly increased mitochondrial superoxide generation (measured by flow cytometry using MitoSOX), NF-kappaB activation, nitrotyrosine formation, up-regulation of iNOS and adhesion molecules ICAM-1 and VCAM-1, transendothelial migration of monocytes, and monocyte- endothelial adhesion in HCAECs. HG also decreased endothelial barrier function measured by increased permeability and diminished expression of VE-Cadherin in HCAECs. Remarkably, all the above mentioned effects of HG were attenuated by CBD pretreatment. Since disruption of the endothelial function and integrity by high glucose is a crucial early event underlying the development of various diabetic complications, our results suggest that CBD, which has recently been approved for the treatment of inflammation, pain and spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis in humans, may be of significant therapeutic benefits against diabetic complications and atherosclerosis. Key words: vascular, inflammation, oxidative stress, peroxynitrite, cannabidiol.

bobbyD - 28 Mar 2007 17:57 GMT check out ''project CUPID'' from the UK.
Cannabinoidal Use by Persons with Inflammatory brain Disease
it finished its first phase double blind placebo controlled study, with good results,,, that spurred on this next phase drug trial test.
i have posted the url here last year,, but cant find it now,,, google if ya like,, ''project cupid'' have a look see.
Canada used to have a medical pot drug trial going on its 4th year,, but our wonderful right wingnut Conservative government just cut off 4 billion in programs, one of them was this important drug study on marijuana and MS pain.
its 3 year result gave great results ,, but why did our Effed up government =-up and cancell this study???
they also cancelled and closed many ''womens centers'' across Canada. in this dumbassed money grab,,,cutting social services that are important to canadians.
isolating the pertinent Cannabinoids is very important,,,
if you visit my website www.thehighercause.com
you can have a look at a REAL marijuana Chromatic spectrum of the medical marijuana i grow.
it lists a few Cannabinoids, THC CBD levels,, good marijuana may have a high THC value,, but for it to benefit ME,, i need to also have a very high level of CBD in my pot,,, up near 9-10% the CBD's do not make you stoned/high byt provide effective relief from MS,,,
i would like a concentrated capsule of JUST CBD's as a medication tailored to people with MS,, never get stoned,, but get the benefits fine tunedfor me!!!!!
cheers bobbyD
my thc levels are at their highest - 26% THC,,

In Mole Pharmaceutics Oct 2006 there is a study showing how cannabinoids were better or comparable to many drugs currently used to treat alzheimers.

I remember when I had a badly congested head, that I could take my bong and fill it up the bowl with dried large fan leaves from a plant and wham- my sinus problem would drain fast and my headache was instantly gone. No doubt it was a drug other than THC that made the leaves work on my sinus problems better than smoking good bud did. CBD, CBN. or whatever else is in pot can have real medical value. The fan leaves of a pot plant have low THC content, however smoking them can still make one's eyes red, and create a spacey feeling. Smoking the leaves worked really good at draining my congested head (head colds), while the bud did now always have this effect with me.
