Hi, this has been on my mind for sometime now, and I wanted to ask you
all a few questions. I have read an article at 'Herbal and homeopathic
remedies for asthma'

Which says?
'There are lot of Herbal and homeopathic medicines for the treatment
of asthma and they are extremely effective for the managing the
asthma. But it's Depending on the severity of the asthma that which
type of medicine is use for the cure and how much potency should it
require have, these medicine can reduce or eliminate the need for the
synthetic drugs and inhalers that persons are use generally for the
fast management of the asthma . These herbal and homeopathic medicines
are also safe in the use complement conventional treatment of
asthma.'

While it must be true, I wonder what you have to say about it. Do let
me know!

1) Why *must* it be true?
2) Herbs have actual active compounds in them, so I wouldn't rule out
efficacy there. But I want to see the research (not anecdotes) that show
efficacy. But homeopathy is utter bunk. It simply can not work.

LOL!   You never heard of the Placebo effect?  Bound to work in the
context of Homeopathy, maybe even other protocols...difficult to tell
if placebo or homeopathic mixture did the job  :)

Well, that's not what's meant with 'it works' in medicine. A drug is
said to 'work' if it does significantly better than a placebo.

In some placebo controlled tests you see the homeopathic remedy do
better (although not significantly) than the placebo. After all, you are
comparing two placebos and one of the two is bound to do better than the
other.

How can you promote homeopathic medicines when there is nothing in them?

I suggest that you go to 3 web sites and do searches there

1    www.drweil.com and

Weil has IMO a pretty balanced view of all types of medicine. Initially he
did not sell any products on that web site but now he is doing it more and
more. However, the bulk of information on the web site is not related to
selling.  See the following article:

http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/id/ART00306

which covers symptoms, causes, conventional treatments and his recommended
therapies.

2    www.mayoclinic.com

The Mayo clinic is leaning more and more towards accomodating Complementary
and Alternative medicine. However, one gets a sense of doubt about the
beliefs of the writers of some of the alternative medicine articles. There
is though a definite moverment in the right direction.

3    www.nih.gov

The National Institutes of Health also seems to be accepting alternative
medicine.

IMO these three are far preferable to the hundreds of other health-related
web sites, most of which are selling products  - I have very little
confidence in them.

Good luck in your quest.
