ADHD warnings in place: TGA
AUSTRALIAN health authorities say new warnings for hyperactivity drugs
introduced in the US are already in place in Australia.

Manufacturers of medications for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in
the US have been told to alert patients to possible cardiovascular and
psychiatric risks of the drugs.

The warnings come after a US review into their adverse effects revealed
reports of sudden death in patients with underlying serious heart problems
or defects.

It also found reports of stroke and heart attack in adults with certain risk
factors.

Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration says warnings about these risks
were recently added to information given to doctors and patients.

"The black box warning was added to (product information) by the TGA on
March 14, 2006," a spokeswoman for the authority said.

She said the TGA had requested that consumer information be included in the
box being dispensed with the medication.

And why should it be there?

Of course, there is a lot of truthful stuff on my web site. From time
to time someone claims that there are lies there, but nobody ever
seems able to come up with an example.

So Australia is ahead of the US when it comes to warning labels. So
what?
