Music An Effective Remedy For Chronic Pain

May 29, 2006 8:45 p.m. EST

Shaveta Bansal - All Headline News Contributor
New York, NY (AHN) - US researchers have confirmed that music can be
used as an effective remedy to combat severity of chronic pain.

Researchers tested the effect of music on 60 patients by dividing them
into music listening group and non-music listening group.

All the patients were suffering from severe pain due to conditions such
as osteoarthritis, disc problems and rheumatoid arthritis for an
average of six-and-a-half years.

Among those who listened to music, half were allowed to choose their
favorite selections, the rest picked from a list of five relaxing tapes
provided by the researchers.

The investigators found that those who listened to music reported a cut
in pain levels of up to 21 percent, and in associated depression of up
to 25 percent, compared to those who did not listen.

Researcher Dr Sandra Siedlecki, of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation,
said, "There were some small differences between the two music groups,
but they both showed consistent improvements in each category when
compared to the control group."

Previous research published in the same journal found listening to 45
minutes of soft music before going to bed can improve sleep by more
than a third.

I've got Fibromyalgia among other symptoms. I'll light up and meditate
to soothing music. (by itself is just to boring). After about an hour
I'm more refreshed and relatively pain free.
Nice to see some studies on the brain/body link.

Drugs are always the "out" for those who want it.

It has nothing to do with music except in the imagination.

Addicts, whether drug, alcohol, masochism, sadism always have an excuse.

I want "out" from suffering 24/7. Ever been tortured on a daily basis?
think you would want "out" of it? It's a question you can't answer
unless you've been there.

music (energy) and the imagination (energy) work together.

Vern you need to realize we have a epidemic of borrelia, bartonella,
and god knows what else. People get horribly ill as these pathogens
produce some very nasty toxins to which cannabis works wonders. They do
not realize it but they are self medicating themselves.

Legal drugs are bad enough.  Necessary, yes, over used yes, miss prescribed
yes.
Are there alternates?  Very definitely.

For absolute certain, yes.
Music actually soothes the literal savage beast.

Oh, I know quite well the illnesses.  I also know that there has not been
one iota of proof that cannabis is positive.
PROOF?
Pharms would be all over synthetic or real cannabis and make millions.
Legality would be side stepped.  There isn't the slightest indication (so
far) of anything positive.

I'm glad it's working for you.  But we might want to call it the
mind-brain-body link.
