Oh YES, Ben Goldacre again, another Peter Bowditch. Poor CathyB.

Sad Science
June 30th, 2005
I remember when Bad Science used to be fun. Ben Goldacre would rant on about
some idiotic alternative medicine for a trivial condition and worry about
being killed in a sexual experiment that goes horribly wrong or merely
drowning in pentawater. These days it seems things are more serious, with
misunderstandings of probability resulting in false convictions and the
tragedy of AIDS policy in South Africa. The real problem is, that there is
clearly plenty of space for both kinds of article, yet Bad Science seems to
be the only mainstream outlet for this kind of thing. It is only a few
paragraphs in a weeks worth of Guardians. You would think that something
like Private Eye would be a good place for a bit of debunking, but they seem
have pseudo-science problems of their own, as they are big believers in the
whole MMR/autism-government coverup-aliens thing. Come on guys, lets at
least have a whole page devoted to Bad Science, and give poor Ben Goldacre a
pay rise...

Why did Lollipop reply with an article demanding more Ben Goldacres and
Bad Sciences ? Has she seen the light?

Oh, you haven't noticed? Jan has reading comprehension problems, probably
combined with a little laziness. If you just glance at only the first line
of the above, rather than reading the whole thing (or even to whole first
sentence), it looks like the piece is something CRITICAL of Ben Goldacre.
After all, it accuses him of ranting, something that Jan herself gets
accused of. That's all our bitter old hag needs to see. She does her good
ole cut and paste trick thinking she's nailed that CathyB with a great
little "gotcha"! "Poor CathyB." Now, she'll either snip this comment as a
"lie and diversion", or will repost the article in tight-jawed determination
that it IS a negative indictment of Goldacre (like she did with the article
praising an organization that is dedicated to reducing medication and
treatment errors in hospitals). Some things are so predictable.

Only with Lollipop would one be unable to choose between the "didn't
read it" and "didn't understand it" options. Bless.

Weird, I know. And she compares him to me. I am flattered.
