Sometimes I have heartburn and stomach discomfort but if I take a
tablet of pepto bismol daily I feel good all day.
Question: Is it safe to take a tablet of pepto bismol daily for long
periods or permanently?
Is there a toxicity problem?

There is an effect called "The Pepto Bismol Effect".
If you take Pepto Bismol enough, it can add to other blood thinner's pills
effects.
It contains Asprin, check the label.
One a day won't necessarily hurt, but more can cause "The Pepto Bismol
Effect".
I didn't save the article, darn it, but it was in a mainstream publication.

I think a bigger question is why do you feel stomach discomfort so much that
you want to take a pepto bismal every day?
I would talk to your doctor.
And if you smoke, stop smoking.
If you are overweight, talk with your doctor about proper diet and
exercise. And then do it.

Bismuth is a heavy metal. It's not the worst of the heavy metals, but
toxicity has been associated with it, from people taking large doses
for long periods.
It would be dumb to take it every day.

Alejandro,
Pepto Bismol, aka Pink Bismuth, is
bismuth subsalicylate. It is in the aspirin
chemical family but it is NOT aspirin.
I say this because I cannot take even 40mg
of aspirin per diem without bloating that turns
into bleeding. For people who cannot tolerate
aspirin, pink bismuth is the drug of choice. It
thins your blood, makes the heart work better,
relieves dyspepsia, and is known worldwide for
killing salmonella in the gut if taken at the right
time. The downside is black stool and potentiation
of alcohol and other medicines.
As for taking pink bismuth ever day, you better see
a doctor before you do this.
