Beating cancer 'bad for health'

TWO out of three children who beat cancer go on to develop other
chronic health problems - from heart disease to blindness.

Researchers from the American Cancer Society today said it is because
of radiation and other treatments that saved their lives.

Specialists say improved treatments mean today’s patients should have
fewer problems.

Death is even worse for health.

Doctors have been looking for ways to decrease the short- and long-term
disabilities that chemotherapy, radiation and surgery have. For example, for
bone cancers, surgeons have been doing research on using limb-sparing
surgeries. For leukemia, doctors have been hard at work to determine which
patients need chemotherapy delivered into their cerebral spinal fluid and
which ones don't, to reduce the side effects of this.

I wish there were a better option than these treatments, but there isn't.
