The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention has revised its figures
and is now reporting that nearly 53,000 Americans are living with HIV
infection. It is important to point out this is the total number,
which not only includes gay men, but those who were infected through
blood transfusions or the use of intravenous drugs or through straight
sex.

Eh? Hold on a second. "53,000 Americans are living with HIV
infection?" Where does *that* figure come from?
The last figures I saw from the CDC estimated over one million US
citizens were HIV+.
And the article gets worse. Author Joseph Couture, a gay man who
watches straight porn for 'research purposes,' attempts to prove that
HIV shouldn't be considered a 'gay thing' because there are 1.5
million abortions in the US each year.

I have heard the chatter amongst the critics who have been quick to
claim this is proof that men who have sex with men are having unsafe
sex en masse.
I would say the evidence suggests otherwise and those critics should
look at their own behavior before they start criticizing others. While
recently working on my new book about public sex, as a part of my
research, I watched a large selection of straight porn. One of the
first things that I noticed is that the actors in heterosexual
pornography do not use condoms as a rule.
[...]
Clearly the number of heterosexual men and women having unsafe sex is
exponentially higher than the rate of men who have sex with men who
have unprotected sex. The fact that there are statistically so many
fewer gay men with HIV than heterosexuals having abortions or
contracting STDs proves that not only are the accusations against us
false, but it proves how responsible we have in fact been by
comparison.

Sadly, this article has been reproduced at
<http://gaytwogether.typepad.com/gaytwogether/2008/04/stop-blaming-us.html>
with the incorrect assertion that "...53,000 Americans are living with
HIV infection" highlighted in bold text to draw attention to it and
give it authority.
This typifies the reporting of HIVAIDS, where inaccurate statistics
and theories are represented as facts which no one bothers to check.
What's telling is that the website where this article is reproduced
contains a slew of adverts gay services. Evidence, if it were needed,
of how HIV is used for financial gain.
