As usual these things are open to interpretation.  Followers of other
religions use the bible in a similar way.  Some people interpret
verses as condemning homosexuality; others, often priests, appear to
interpret portions of the bible as a giving a green light to arse f.ck
choirboys.

Even the Qur'an, itself, is open to interpretation, unless you believe
everyone who follows Islam is a closet terrorist.
