Spanish doctors have reported a case of hidden, or occult HIV
infection in the March 1st edition of Clinical Infectious Diseases.
The case concerned a patient who was hospitalised with multiple
opportunistic infections and a CD4 cell count of only 4 cells/mm3. HIV
antibody tests were repeatedly negative, although tests showed that
the patient had an HIV viral load of over 100,000 cppies/ml.
