I wrote a fiction book, Heaven Help Me Talk To Strangers, ISBN
1-60441-336-0, published by Publish America LLLP, that is available in most
major online bookstores and their satellite stores.
The major story line is the existence of sexually transmitted diseases and
the questions that people have concerning their existence and how they
relate to everyday life.  The dichotomy that exists between those that do
certain unsafe things and those that don't and still aren't infected is a
point that probably causes more people to question why the disease exists,
and probably explains better than anything why people don't listen to their
physicians when it comes to STD's in general.
The book is an attempt to open a deeper dialogue, maybe a means to cause
"science" to think so that it can answer the questions that really have to
be answered.  The book also tries to address why long term diseases that
were treated in the past to a degree suddenly have new strains today.
I hope this leads to people reading and buying the book, but I hope the
dialogue that ensues on this topic outweighs any negativity surrounding this
post, and any other unliked views they may have.

It's not only when it comes to STDs that people don't listen to
doctors.  Why do you think around 25% of people smoke?  Why do you
think the majority of people stuff themselves with processed food,
sugars and fats?  Why do you think the only form of exercise many
people do is walking to and from their car?

GBP12.50 from online retailers here in the UK, which is about $25.
That's my average daily spend on chocolate, biscuits (cookies) and
crisps (chips). :) :) :)

And only running to 188 pages.

I know what you mean, in fact your words might be in the book verbatim
(prior to your actually having written them, of course, many arguments are
similar after all).

Yes, it is a fiction novel though, please remember that.  There are
different points that are focused upon.  And to tell you the truth, it reads
a lot longer than 188 pages (probably an environmentally helpful book
though).

That depends.
Are you a medical scientist or sociologist trying to explain the realities
of life - or just another "goddidit" a.shole?

I'm definitely not of the "God did it" train of thought, and I really don't
believe that he did.  You would think that God would attack only those that
he intends to attack, if he sent a disease to attack a specific demographic.
or he would warn those that he does not want to be inflicted.

This being said, I am not a medical scientist nor a sociologist.  I did
receive my JD, but the book is about research so perhaps you will find that
on point.  It is a fiction novel, so the book has multiple sub plots, but
the research into std's is prominent.
