The only ways I know of are:

1) Surver their exclusive partners for HPV;

2) Sever, macerate, and execute PCR detection of HPV on the poor
fellow's penises. No, really, I think that is the only other way.

Seriously! I just went to an HPV seminar by a local urologist this
Sunday. That's pretty much it; there might be one viral particle
lodged in a skin cell somewhere on a man's penis, and no swab will
detect the virus, and any small sample might miss a damaged/infected
cell.

Is there any consensus on this from group members? And by the way, HI!
Nice to drop by.

Did you bother to read the article at your own link?

"Currently, there is no test designed to find HPV in men."

"HPV is very common and most men with HPV will never develop health
problems from it."

That is not, of course, the same of saying that there's no test that
will find HPV in men.  That only says that the FDA hasn't approved,
for men, the test that is used for women.  There's no reason the same
test couldn't be used for men, except that many insurance companies
won't pay for an "off-label" test.

There apparently is no test approved for detecting HPV in men.

Doctors can generally prescribe what they want, even off-label, and
insurance companies will pay for it.

Doctors can't cure what Scott Salberg has, see below:

And you took the hook and swallowed perfectly, faggot.
How does it feel to have your actual picture posted
all over usenet??  See below :-)

What's stupid is the fact that you can't post anything but a forged
"screenshot"

Lets see some pictures, like this
Scott Allen Salbergs family never evolved

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/a/l/Scott-A-Salberg/index.html

Pay close attention to how grotesque his family is. You will notice
the inferior cranial development and the slightly sloped foreheads
reminiscent of Neanderthal man. One has to wonder if their knuckles
drag the ground as they walk.

                         Obviously this family never evolved.

Viruses don't care what gender you are.

Look at some of the studies by Joel Palefsky in the Journal of
Infectious Diseases; he and his colleagues have done genotyping of HPV
in men using PCR.  So it's possible, and the results pass peer review.

I used to work for a PPO, and we would (in general) pay for off-label
drugs, but not off-label tests.  I had to fight them over that myself
- they wouldn't pay for a PSA, even though my father had already died
of prostate cancer before he had reached my age at the time - and
there appears to be a genetic component to prostate cancer.

We aren't talking about the virus here.  We are talking about the
test.

What does genotyping have to do with anything?

From what I read here ( http://www.thehpvtest.com/over-30/HPV-test-the-pap-HPV-faq.html#whatis
) the HPV test uses CERVIX cells.

Men don't have cervixes.

So how can this same test be done on men?

> So it's possible, and the results pass peer review.

What's possible?  Testing men?  Have they found a way to test non-
cervix cells?  Is there a blood test?

Passing peer review doesn't imply automatic FDA approval.  Has the
method been submitted to FDA for approval?  Does it need to be?  If
not, why isn't some company out there trying to profit from this?

I've actually never heard of an off-label test before this discussion
and a Google search on "off-label lab test" returns no results.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=off-label+lab+test

Since the HPV test in women uses cervix cells, clearly this same test
cannot be used in men.  If another test exists, it must be in the
pipeline awaiting FDA approval.  Surely some company would want to
profit off of such a test.

OK, if I have to spell it out, genotyping of HPV.  Which implies that
HPV is being detected.

Yes - they test other epithelial cells.  Look at the papers I
suggested.

You didn't provide links and I'm not much interested in HPV to begin
with, so I'll pass.

I kicked a.s good AGAIN, and now she's got her tail between her legs
and is cowering in a corner somewhere.

She's scared of me.

"Details" buttons at this shortened link may say whether any tests may
be used on male cells (say from the meatus):

http://www.biokits.com/kitssearch-product.html?srword=hpv

5 kits identified in the search when I ran it. There's a lot more to
read to answer the question.

Now, the urologist at our poly group's HPV SIG meeting said if we did
innoculate men, we could wipe out this disease. Yes, that is right, IM
Gardasil produces immune response to those four high-risk strains in
men, but we can't really justify exposing men to the risk of
innoculation en masse; if there were even one lawsuit from an
anaphylactic reaction, the whole program would shut down and nobody
would get any innoculations, ever.

I'm fascinated by HPV.

One clinic I used to work at tested men for HPV (off-label, I'm sure)
by having them collect a urine specimen in a liquid-based (ThinPrep)
Pap bottle. Dunno how accurate was, and it's the only place I've ever
seen it done. You might run that one past your urologist colleague and
get his thoughts on it.

Well, Eilinel, recent studies show HPV particles in semen, and in the
disected vas deferens from vasectomy, so, this seems reasonable. CDC
says MSM like me may request an anal Pap, so I'll ask when I see my
uro in April for more extensive knowledge of my HPV status: what
strains am I carrying, where are they, and is there any cell damage. I
believe a Pap spatula scraping from the meatus urinaris would be a
good starting place as well. I am seeing PPVA in a week, and they will
be more sex-positive than my uro. He's old-school. "Multiple partners"
I said. "Condoms!" he said. Not even a sentence. Not exactly in
denial, though. I think he's actually jealous. :)

Now, of course, innoculating someone against something, and testing
for that something, are two different animals.

It would have to go through the same process as the trials performed
with women.
