A record number of Swedes were infected with HIV in 2007.

Stockholm’s intravenous drug users suffered a major outbreak which
added to the high infection statistics. The virus strain is new and
appears to have come from Finland.

Through the middle of November 2007, forty-five new cases of HIV
infections were discovered among drug addicts in Stockholm county. The
figure is more than double the twenty-two cases confirmed in 2006 and
significantly higher than the twenty-six cases recorded in 2005.

“This is amounts to a real emergency,” said Åke Örtqvist, a doctor of
infectious diseases in Stockholm.

The number of new HIV cases among men younger than age 30 who have sex
with men in New York City has increased since 2003 despite a decrease
in the number of overall new cases and AIDS-related deaths, the New
York Times reports.

According to the New York City Department of Health and Mental
Hygiene, the number of annual new HIV diagnoses increased by 34% among
black and Hispanic MSM between 2001 and 2006 and increased by 32%
among all MSM younger than age 30. There were 100 new HIV cases among
young white MSM in New York City in 2006, compared with 228 new cases
among young black MSM and 165 cases among young Hispanic MSM. New HIV
diagnoses among MSM older than age 30 have decreased by 22% during the
same time period, according to the Times.

Those lucky people who live in Sweden have quite a lot of choice when
choosing which version of killer HIV to have.

"Rumours that he was infected had been circulating in music circles
for a number of years, but until now Lundstedt had kept his diagnosis
to himself. He told QX that he was revealing his status now because 'I
feel I am at the right stage in my life.' Lundstedt is the first
Swedish entertainment star since the eighties to admit publicly to
being HIV positive. He said the strain of the virus with which he was
infected is not as aggressive as some other strains.

Before there is "disease," there is aberrant biochemistry.  The likely
reason for the "AIDS epidemic" circa 1980 is that is when most of the
"at risk" groups had arachidonic acid in their cells, unlike previous
generations (who had Mead acid in their cells).  The difference in
dangerous biochemistry once extreme stressors occur is huge.  There
were several good studies on this in the 1980s, for example, on the AA
metabolite, PGE2, in semen (in large amounts), but because the "germ
theory" crowd prevailed, there was little in the way of "follow up."
