As former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee soared to first place in polls
among Republican presidential candidates in Iowa and to second place
in many national polls, he is being gifted with both opportunity and
further scrutiny.

Huckabee found himself this weekend explaining proposals he made
during his disastrous 1992 Senate race, when he suggested AIDS
patients be quarantined. For the most part, Huckabee defended his
views from 17 years ago.

In an Associated Press survey from 1992, Huckabee suggested that the
government isolate AIDS patients from the rest of the populace.

"If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with
the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers
of this plague," he wrote. "It is the first time in the history of
civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been
isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease
for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue
instead of the true health crisis it represents."

Very interesting, but still not sufficient reason to vote for a rightard
with a Jebus stuck up his a.s.  He is simply pointing out the obvious,
something that offends those who profit from treating HIV/AIDS patients.

Other than pharmaceutical profits from each new HIV patient, another
reason advocates oppose quarantine is that they want as many new HIV
infections among as many groups and classes as possible to ensure
continued lavish funding for finding a cure.  Quarantined patients
are out of sight and out of mind and out of the latest budget.

People, like me, who fail to die despite refusing their poisons
probably offend them even more.

They can't continue to increase life-expectancy predictions of
unmedicated HIV+ individuals forever, and it's only a matter of time
before we see large numbers of HIV drug junkies die from the
wonder-pills they take.

Great Article.....
Changed my view on him....I never knew about that one.. Some people
think we all should be isolated...Look what the did to the person with
TB...

Locked him up then hunted him down after the set him free.....It's Bad
enought he had to live with BD why punish the suffering...Thought we
were here to help...

Thank for the info..

I certainly wouldn't agree with the first part of that statement.  As
you know, I don't believe there is an "AIDS virus," and as no test for
it (presumably HIV) exists I think it would be a bit difficult to work
out who to quarantine.

However, gay activists and civil rights enthusiasts have certainly
turned an unfortunate phenomena into a gay rights of passage issue.

But, please remember that not all homosexuals go flag waving and
marching at the weekend.  Most of us are very dull and lead boring
lives.

I think the flag waving marchers have done something that even their
enemies couldn't achieve: they've found a way to detect gay
individuals and have conspired with drugs companies to poison them.
