FRISCO, Texas A suburban Dallas man accused of having unprotected
sex while aware that he is HIV positive has been charged with four
counts of aggravated assault.
Philippe Padieu, 51, of Frisco, is accused of having sex with four
women, at least one of whom has tested positive for HIV, the virus
that causes AIDS, said Frisco police Sgt. Gerald Meadors.
Padieu was being held Tuesday night in the Collin County Jail in
McKinney on $50,000 bond for each charge. A jail spokesman said she
had no records that indicate whether he has an attorney.
Padieu, a martial arts instructor, was arrested at an Addison night
club last week. He has known since the fall of 2005 that he is HIV
positive, Frisco police said in a news release.
Police claim Padieu "positive and intentionally, knowingly or
recklessly caused serious bodily injury by creating a substantial risk
of death by the exchange of bodily fluids."

I had previously claimed that almost every case of deliberate HIV
transmission involved males infecting females. This case is no
exception.

That's the way it seems. The few exceptions to this rule usually
involve those who are under the age of consent.

At one point last year, Philippe Padieu was dating four women at the
same time. That's not against the law.
But Frisco police say his actions in those relationships were illegal.
They've charged him with four counts of aggravated assault, because,
they say, he had unprotected sex with the women without telling them
he had HIV.
Now the four ex-girlfriends have the human immunodeficiency virus, the
virus that causes AIDS, according to arrest warrant affidavits
released Thursday.
Those affidavits detail when each of the women dated Mr. Padieu, when
they tested positive and when they got in contact with police. One
woman who had been involved with Mr. Padieu for more than four years
described her relationship with him as monogamous. Two others
described "extended" relationships. The affidavits use pseudonyms for
the women to protect their identities.

Criminal prosecutions of people with HIV who do not tell their sexual
partners that they are infected are rare, according to Bebe Anderson,
the HIV project director for Lambda Legal, an advocacy group for gays,
lesbians and those infected with HIV.
